WANDERING THOUGHTS (as we see them) “Where are we going? – Higher!” – yes, the famous saying from TeleMiracle for 45 years! And Saskatchewan (true to tradition), has done it once again, raising $5,630,215! In a year, full of change, the people of our fair province came together to make another miracle happen. The many legacies, bequeaths, corporate, business and Individual donations just kept on coming. And the entertainment of every age – all calling Saskatchewan home. Mother Nature also has adopted the slogan – “where are we going? – Higher!”. As we sit here putting this all together, we hear that temps could be in the double digits (on the plus side) by the weekend – yikes! We hear of some oddities in the weather again. Ontario experienced an Alberta clipper for a few days last week! And parts of Alberta witnessed “thundersnow” – does that mean we might expect “blizzardrain” this summer? Looking back – as we frequently do …in 2002 on the 2nd, it was cold – so cold that a friend’s cowboy boots froze in the local motel room – not fake news! Yes, nineteen years ago since we sorted our last letter and sold our last stamp – oh yeah… memories! Fact - - as years of retirement add up, similarly do candles on the birthday cake – not even Covid can change that! The Scotties Tournament of Hearts 2021 (40 years) is history in it’s Covid format. It ended up as a rematch of the 2020 final in Moose Jaw – with the same results. Our Sask team were the B pool champs but the cross-over proved to be too much – but they represented us well. (Glad to see the Quebec team recognized for their enthusiasm and cheerfulness). Now we get ready to watch the Brier playoffs beginning on Friday the 5th. The gas companies are also in the “where are we going – higher” mode. Covid has made it so we can’t go anywhere and now gas prices are making it so we can’t afford to go anywhere … if we could! Time for some good news – SGI has announced that they want to share their last 3 year’s surplus by sending all vehicle owners a rebate on their insurance – expect the cheque-in-the-mail in May. More good news – the Covid vaccine supply is back on track with new varieties – one that only requires one shot – hopefully it will take care of the variances that seem to continue to pop up! Hear the other day where ticket sales to Mars are expected to “spike”! Stay safe – we are gaining ??

I DON'T THINK SOME KIDS KNOW WHAT AN APRON IS. The principle use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. Also it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven. - It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and ...on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears. - From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven. - When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.. - And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms. - Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. - Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron. - From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls. - In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees. - When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds. - When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner. It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes. Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw. They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron. I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron - but love...❤

LAMB OR LION ? Here it is, the 1st day of March – and as we look outside it appears to be a “mixed bag” weatherwise. One minute it looks quite blustery – then suddenly it clears and the sun is brilliantly shining. There is a brisk wind from the S/SE – and as an oldtimer once said, “a southeast wind is never pleasant no matter which way it comes from”. The temperature is improving as we write – from -19° C at wake-up to -2°C at 2 p.m. – and forecast to go to +5°C -- -- whoops didn’t make it! 2021 WAWOTA LIONS INDUCTION “Kinda lamb, kinda lion”… … you decide … L to R: Shawn Murray (Sponsor), Kayle Swanson (2021 Inductee), Gord Paulley (District Governor), Dean Horvath (Sponsor), Brady Dinwoodie (2021 Inductee), Dylan Lamontagne (2021 Inductee), Brent Pryce (Sponsor), Dale Hewitt (2021 Inductee), Darrell Peterson (Sponsor).
