The Alley Events Guide Exhibitions at the Alley Collecting Art Mon 13th Jan 2020 - Friday 31st Jan 2020 The Council’s art collection came together from the late 1970s when the former Derry City Council was putting together plans for a gallery and museum space in the city. The Orchard Gallery opened in Derry in 1978 and until it's closure in 2003 maintained a high profile in the art world. The gallery aimed to exhibit a range of practitioners, emerging and established artists, covering a wide geographical areas. The Alley Theatre has exhibited artwork since March 2007 Many of the items have been donated whilst others were purchased with assistance from the Northern Ireland Museum Council, gifted from the Northern Ireland Arts Council as well as items that were part of the Orchard Gallery. As with much of the museum collection, the works of art relate in some way to the region. From portraits and landscapes to still life and abstract pieces. This exhibition represents a small portion of the variety of art within our collection. // EXHIBITION Book online www.alley-theatre.com | Sign up now for The Alley Newsletter
