Despite the pandemic, the dedicated volunteers of Felician Village were able to log 3,633 hours in 2020. That’s amazing! These hours of service were primarily done by The Garden residents, community volunteers and Felician Village at Home volunteers. We are welcoming volunteers back for select activities in The Court, Villa and Gardens and would appreciate your help. It may not be the volunteer job that you had done in the past, but the residents and employees would welcome your service. Consider volunteering for activities, medical records, reception, conversations with residents, providing entertainment or Felician Village at Home. On April 29, 2021, a Volunteer Appreciation Drive-thru Event was held to recognize all the outstanding Felician Village volunteers. FV employees lined the driveway at The Gardens and cheered with cowbells, air horns and posters, plus a live serenade by the music therapist, as volunteers drove through. All received a boxed lunch and gift. I’d like to thank the staff planning these events for their creativity and ability to keep everyone safe while still celebrating and acknowledging our residents and staff. Certainly our Felician value of ‘transformation’ is seen time and time again as we shift and adjust these events during this pandemic. Visitation has been going well and both families and residents are enjoying the ability to visit together in person again. Finally, a shout out to our veterans and current members of our military as we honor you on Memorial Day, May 31. Felician Award Winner Named On Thursday, April 29, Connie Thimmig, Felician Village Director of Enrichment Services, named Judith Wetenkamp as the 2021 recipient of the Felician Award for Excellence in Volunteer Service at Felician Village. This award honored an individual whose volunteer actions have made a significant impact on the residents/operations of Felician Village. The recipient of this award exemplifies the core values of Felician Village by living out the healing ministry of Jesus and providing compassionate care that respects the dignity of each person served. The award was presented at the 2021 Volunteer Appreciation Drive Thru event. Judith's nomination said, "Judith began service at Felician Village early in 2019 by helping transport residents to and from chapel. In the summer of 2019, she transitioned her volunteer time to The Gardens library. She has always had a passion for books and reading, so tending to the library was a natural fit. In 2020, the library underwent a large overhaul due to The Gardens refresh project. In preparation for painting and new carpeting, each book, DVD and other library items needed to be removed. This volunteer guided the project, The 2021 Felician Award for Excellence in carefully reorganizing and relabeling each item.
