Your knowledge • We don’t expect you to know everything about the University. • Answer questions honestly and if you don’t know the answer, refer to Ask Adelaide. • Share your experiences at university (the good and the challenging) but recognise that everyone is different so may experience things differently. • Try your best and don’t be afraid to check with the Ask Adelaide team if you get stuck! The University of Adelaide Slide 11

Take your time and keep the group talking • Encourage the group to talk with each other – one of the key achievements is that they make friends with each other The University of Adelaide Slide 12
Your ‘Bus Stop’ Campus Tour What is the Bus Stop Tour? • The Bus Stop tour was designed to take all students to the location of support services rather than just telling them where it is. • There will be a representative from the support service at the bus stop that will give a brief overview of what services they offer and how they can help current students. They will also be there to answer questions. You do not need to know much about each service – the rep will be there to answer questions. • You must ensure that all the students in your group receives a stamp on their planner from each bus stop. • Hosts will be split into 3 groups – each group will have a different plan to follow on the day to ensure your students attend 1 Welcome Talk, 1 full Bus Stop Tour and the VC Welcome on Goodman Lawns. The University of Adelaide Slide 13
Your ‘Bus Stop’ Campus Tour It is expected that the tour will take at least 1 to 2 hours. A few points that may help with the tour: • Allow the group to catch up and stop before you start speaking and the representative starts speaking. • Encourage questions about each location • Share your experiences about good places to study and socialise • Speak clearly and loudly • Remember your group may be quite diverse. Students can be local, international, mature-age, school-leavers, those who are first-in-family to attend university and those who already have degrees. Celebrate this diversity - it’s one of the things that makes the University of Adelaide great • Keep it fun. Help the new students enjoy the tour and enjoy it yourself. The University of Adelaide Slide 14
Your ‘Bus Stop’ Campus Tour • You will all receive a printable map with the route and bus stops highlighted – please have this available on the day to follow. We will have spares as well. • You will also receive some talking points on each of the bus stops to use as talking points. Please refer to this throughout the tour. • It is imperative that you follow the route outlined on the map to ensure that students still see our beautiful campus and get to all the bus stops. • In your training pack you will also find a document outlining the plan for each host group – you will be allocated a group number on the day. The stall will be set up in the Hub on Level 4, all they need to do is show their student ID card as a new student. Before you get to the stall please make sure all your students have their ID card or ID number ready for the stall holder. The best time to take your students there is at any point you are in the hub and it is a convenient time. It may take a while to get all your students organised so keep this in mind in case it effects getting to a Welcome Talk or Goodman Lawns.
