START DATE AND ATTENDANCE • Start date is Wednesday 3rd February and Friday 5th February 2021. We want students to start on time, please makes sure students are back from holidays etc and ready to start this week. • Chisholm has a 90% attendance policy. We deliver for approx. 34 weeks over the year so would not like to see them miss more than 4 in a calendar year. We understand attendance may fall below this rate but we find once attendance is below 80%, students have trouble keeping up with assessments and put themselves at risk of failing their certificate/program. This can depend on individual students and their ability to keep up with their studies. • Students who do not commence/attend their course by the third week can be withdrawn and their place offered to any student on the waiting list. • Students can withdraw from their VETDSS course by Friday 5th March and schools will only be charged an administration fee (possibly materials if they are collected). After this date, schools will be invoiced the full fee for the student. Please discuss this with your VET coordinator at school. You cannot contact Chisholm directly for this. • If a student is going to be absent, we ask that the family/student notify their secondary school. The school is then responsible to advise Chisholm who will enter this on their records.

CHISHOLM VETDSS PROGRAMS Scored, Non-Scored and Block Credit You will see there are some differences between VETDSS courses at Chisholm. VCAL and VCE students can enroll into any of our VETDSS courses. To help you understand: SCORED PROGRAM – Programs have set structure for first and second year, students will obtain a unit 1-2 and 3-4 contribution. Scored programs carry an exam at the end of second year, which means it can be calculated into their ATAR. Students can also do these courses unscored if this is their preference and discussed with school. NON SCORED – Most programs contribute to units 1-4 and students who complete a VCE VET Unit 3 and 4 sequence may be eligible for an increment towards their ATAR (10 per cent of the lowest study score of the primary four studies). BLOCK CREDIT –To be eligible for block credit student must be enrolled in VCE or VCAL. Students may still get a unit 1-2 contribution and 3-4 sequence. ATAR contribution is dependent on level of certificate and structure of other VCE subjects. This should be discussed with your secondary school. PARTIAL COMPLETION – This means after the two years you are not eligible for a full certificate. You will receive an official Statement of Attainment that will list the units you have passed. Our Building & Construction course may offer a bridging course at the end of second year, so students can obtain a full certificate II.
WORK PLACEMENT / STRUCTURED WORKPLACE LEARNING (SWL) We have 3 courses at present that have mandated work placement for the VET/VCE certificate, these are: • Early Childhood – 60 hours per year – Training package requirement • Salon Assistant – 40 hours in one year VCAA Requirement (can do hours at Chisholm) • Health Services Assistant – 40 hours per year VCAA Requirement (can do hours at Chisholm) Compulsory or recommended – Under most courses we have listed that a certain amount of work placement is recommended, not mandated. This is highly recommended by the VCAA. SWL – Students may be signed up by their secondary school to complete SWL (structured workplace learning) which they can gain credits for. This agreement and paperwork is organised with your secondary school.
EQUIPMENT and PPE • Some of our courses will require specific PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as overalls, protective shoes, safety glasses and aprons. • When students receive their enrolment letter, it will have the information regarding equipment or protective wear that is required for the start of classes in February 2021. Please organise this over the summer break so you are ready to start class and enter the workshop/classroom from the start of the year. INFORMATION SESSIONS • We hold compulsory information sessions for Beauty, Community Services, Electrical and Early Childhood courses. • Attendance is registered at these evenings and allocation to classes are only processed once we receive confirmation that you have attended. Please attend to avoid disappointment. • We hope to be able to hold some general information sessions for VETDSS programs later in the year.
