July 31, 2020 Welcome Back! The GCA Administration, School Board, and Medical Advisory Team have worked throughout the past few weeks to develop protocols and procedures for a safe, efficient return to school. School Start Date Grades K5 through 12th Wednesday, August 12th Grades K3 and K4 Friday, August 14th All students need to arrive at school daily wearing a mask or neck gaiter. All elementary students need to be seated in their class by 8:15am daily for temperature checks.
MASKS/NECK GAITERS All students will arrive at school wearing either a mask or neck gaiter. Pre School and Elementary Students will be self-contained in their grade level/family cohorts for all instruction and activities. They will not be required to wear masks in their individual classrooms. However, when they exit the room they will wear their masks (in the halls, to the bathroom, traveling to lunch, etc.) Middle and High School Students must wear an appr oved face cover ing thr ough- out the day due to the close nature and various interactions with numerous students. We understand that certain times of the day for example: lunch, working alone in a class- room, etc. would not make sense to require a mask. Nonetheless, as much as possible we must adhere to CDC recommendations. We will social distance at lunch and provide other breaks throughout the day. We need to work together to safeguard each other’s health. This requirement will be modified as cases in our county decline. Please consistently communicate with us regard- ing your needs, concerns, illness issues, attendance, etc. Go Cougars!!!
Plans of Operation Determined by the level of impact of COVID-19 Cougar Blue Plan School is open with no restrictions (traditional school). Green Plan School is open with limited restrictions. Each grade level will stay with cohorts/family units throughout the school day. Yellow Plan School is open with heightened restrictions. Red Plan School is closed and the campus is open to school personnel only. School will begin on Wednesday, August 12th on the Cougar Green Plan. NOTICE OF RISK: An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 or any contagious disease exists where people congregate. GCA has established reasonable enhanced health and safety measures based on CDC/DPH guidelines, and professional medical advice. We intend to follow and enforce those measures. However, GCA cannot guarantee the health of anyone on our cam- pus or participating in school activities. Therefore, those on our campus and/or participating in school activities are knowingly and voluntarily assuming all risks related to their possible expo- sure to contagious diseases, and are agreeing to accept all such risks to their personal health.
Cougar Blue Plan School is open without restrictions. Grace Christian Academy believes this scenario is unlikely. Green Plan School is open with limited restrictions The GCA administration is preparing for on-campus school operations to resume in the fall of 2020. The community will follow specific health precautions which will be in accordance with our local, state, and federal requirements. As of now, the follow- ing policies and procedures will be in place. All faculty and staff will complete daily health screenings and be provided with face shields. Elementary, Middle and High school students will have staggered arrival/ dismissal times. All students should arrive with mask on and go straight to their classrooms. All students will be screened for temperature by their first period teacher using infrared thermometers. All students in grades 6th-12th and all faculty members will be required to wear face coverings during the day. Younger students (PreK-5th) will be required to wear face coverings entering/exiting the building and when they leave their class- room. Parents and visitors will not be allowed to enter the building. All doors and gates will be locked at 8:00 a.m. Students must either bring their lunch (sandwiches preferred) or purchase lunch through JLo. Students will have limited access to microwaves. Athletics offerings will be determined by GAPPS (Georgia Assoc. of Private and Parochial Schools) recommendations and requirements. Fine Arts/Music will be restricted until further notice. The A+ program will be offered as scheduled GCA plans to have extra help during the day to help clean and maintain a sterile environment for our students. Teachers will routinely clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that are frequently touched. Faculty & Staff will teach and reinforce healthy hygiene practices daily. Touchless hand sanitizers will be installed out- side of every classroom. All “common time” activities such as lunch, PE, recess, etc. will abide by social distancing regulations. Students will be kept with their class cohort as much as possible and will not mix with other classes. Classrooms will be modified to comply with social distancing guidelines, where possible. We will increase circulation of airflow (windows/doors) where possible. Classroom meetings and other gatherings will be moved outside when possible. First semester field trips will be cancelled. It will be reassessed second semester.
Yellow Plan School is open with heightened restrictions. We would create hybrid learning for some grade levels depending on the specific outbreak. Our number one plan for the year is to keep each grade level together as cohorts/family units and not have them exposed to the larger population during the day. Red Plan School is closed to students. It will be open to school personnel only. Distance learning at GCA allows students to continue their coursework solely from home through both synchronous (live) instruction and with asynchronous (accessible anytime) instruction during a time when the campus is closed. GCA teachers will use Zoom, Google Classroom, Google Meets, etc. to meet and teach the students. Student Attendance Policy & COVID-19 Protocol ** See “When to Stay Home” sheet. Any student who has COVID-19 symptoms at school will be sent to the sick area in the front office immediately and will be required to go home. Any student or family member in the household who tests positive for COVID-19 is required to notify the school office (243-8851). Any student living with someone who experiences any of the symptoms of COVID- 19, should self-isolate until that person receives results of a test. If the test is positive, please follow the instructions on page 8 of “When to Stay Home.” Students are required to wear their mask daily.
ENHANCED SAFETY MEASURES As a community, we are learning more about COVID-19 and ways to minimize exposure and risk. We are closely following guidance from a variety of sources, but most specifically the CDC, the GDPH, and our Medical Team. As more information is made available, we are adapting our plans to ensure that we are im- plementing the most efficient measures possible to keep our campus safe. Here are some of the enhanced safety measures that will be in place throughout the GCA campus. Mask – All students and teachers will be required to wear a mask on campus. This will include (but is not limited to) anytime an individual is entering and exiting the building, in hallways, or in classrooms or group situations where a safe distance is not possible. Neck gaiters will be allowed. * Please refer to the Green Plan for specific details. Daily Temperature Checks – On-campus screening of faculty, staff, and students will occur each morning upon arrival. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be required to go home and follow the instructions on page 8. Dedicated Sick Area – There will be a dedicated area in the main office where sick students and employees will be isolated and monitored until they can leave campus. Increased Sanitation Measures – An industrial fogger will be used to disinfect classrooms and buildings as needed. Rooms will be cleaned and sanitized multiple times a day. Touchless hand sanitizers will be installed outside of every classroom. Individual supplies will not be shared, and any shared devices will be disinfected between each person’s usage. In addition, all traditional water fountains will be turned off or covered. We are in the process of installing more bottle fill- ing stations on campus. Hygiene – We will educate all students and teachers on proper hygiene at the start of the school year and reinforce as needed. Focus areas will include washing hands, not touching faces, avoid- ing close contact with classmates, etc. We are also installing new “hygiene” signage around the school. Lunch – Jlo, our campus dining service provider, will continue to prepare and deliver lunches. However, students and faculty will not eat together in the lunchroom at this time. All of the stu- dents will eat with their class in designated spaces throughout the campus. Visitor/Volunteers – Visitors will be extremely limited for the foreseeable future. Parents will not be allowed to eat lunch with their student on campus, and on-campus volunteers will be restricted. Any approved visitors (ie—UPS, vendors, etc.) must have their temperature checked and have on a mask before admission into the building.
WHEN TO STAY HOME Keeping our students and campus healthy will take parents working hand-in-hand with our dedicated faculty and staff. Students must stay home if they are ill or have COVID-like symptoms. To help, we have outlined the following process all GCA families are expected to follow. If a member of the student’s household: If a student has: * Confirmed positive for COVID-19. * A fever of 100.4 or higher. * Awaiting COVID-19 test results. * Experiencing other COVID-like * Unwell with OR experiencing COVID- symptoms (See List Below) like symptoms. *Confirmed positive or awaiting a test. Per CDC guidelines, any student with a confirmed positive COVID test cannot return to school or participate in-person in any school activities until the following occurs: * If the student is positive WITH COVID-related symptoms: The student MUST have a doctor’s note authorizing their return 10 or more days after the test was administered and ONLY AFTER they have had a temperature lower than 100.4 and improved respiratory symptoms for three consecutive days without fever-reducing medicine. * If the student is positive with NO COVID-related symptoms (e.g., asymptomatic): The student can return to school 10 days after the test was administered. They MUST have a doctor’s note authorizing return. Exemption: A member of a household is awaiting a COVID test for a requirement other than an exposure or symptoms ie: job requirement, elective surgeries, etc. * GCA will be closely following the most recent CDC and GDPH guidelines: Therefore, these criteria are subject to change.
