The VB Musical was enjoyed by over 500 people in three performances last weekend with a cast of over fifty volunteers. Margaret and Joanne, along with a dedicated group of volunteers, spent countless hours planning, organizing, practicing, and directing what turned out to be a real gem of a production. Cast members were thrilled to be involved and the audiences had a great time! victoria beach club special activities 2019 activity DATE TIME LOCATION CONVENOR Suzy Blunderfield Make a VB Walking Stick Tues., August 27th 1:00-3:00PM VB Clubhouse Doug Mackie
2 August 16, 2019 Victoria Beach HERALD Letter to the Editor From issue 7 of the Herald, I strongly disagree on the comment in “Letters to the Editor” about putting out used items. I find it a treasure of VB unlike other communities which will just throw the items in the trash. But as a compromise I suggest that if something has been out for a week or even less that you can take the items off the side of the road and put them in the trash/recycling. Braden Driedger, age 10 Carve Your Own Walking/Talking Stick!! Doug Mackie returns due to popular interest for a special Art Thursday event on August 27th from 1:00 to 3:00PM in the VB Clubhouse! A recent rainstorm had moistened the sand into a perfect consistency for budding artists to sculpt their designs. More than 100 participants enjoyed the morning’s competition, and all were rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and a cool treat to take the edge off the heat and humidity of the day. The judges had their jobs cut out for them, as the competition was very tight. Prizes were awarded for first place in all categories with the exception of the 10 and under category where all participants left with a treat. Thank you to all the participants for making this another successful and fun event! We saw creativity, team work and perseverance and the results were spectacular. Victoria Beach HERALD August 16, 2019 13 One Hundred Years – Over One Hundred Thank Yous VB Novelty Tennis Tournament 2019 – Aug 17th & 18th Last year’s Novelty tournament was described as “the talk of the town”, and “simply brilliant” by every single person in Victoria Beach. This year we are going to kick it up a notch. On mid day Saturday, the super popular serving clinic (complete with ball speed radar) will be back, as well as the groundstroke clinic (with the awesome red ball machine). A group of our very own high calibre players have also volunteered to run skill development clinics. Roam around from clinic to clinic, pick up some great tennis tips, and soak up the background music. As if that isn’t enough, after the clinics, hop into some GVS to practice some of those tips, before you dive into your next afternoon game. The format of the tournament will remain as a team tennis event. There will be 4 people per team, playing in two divisions. Winners will be decided by total games won. All matches will be pro-sets, and games will be no-ad deuce. Teams will be meticulously selected and blended to maximize your enjoyment no matter what your level of play. Rest assured our roving prize judge will be back looking for any reason whatsoever to plant a prize in your hot little hands. By nature, he’s easy to impress, and difficult to offend. And now for the fine print … Sign up sheets will be posted at the tennis courts on Friday Aug 9th at noon. Sheets will be taken down at 5pm on Thursday Aug 15th or as soon as the first 48 players have signed up. Teams and draws will be posted no later than 5pm on Friday Aug 16th. Entry fee is $5.00 please pay before you play. All entrants must be members of the VB club, and have their own shoe tag. Duane Lucht, Jeff Hollins, Bruce Eyford

Victoria Beach HERALD August 16, 2019 19 Swimming Wrap-up 2019! Wait…what? I thought we just had registration! Where did all that time go? Two sessions of swimming lessons have come and gone and yet another group of excited swimmers have furthered their skills here at the beach under the watchful eyes of our fantastic swim team. A huge thank you goes out to our dedicated swim instructors: Tess Poulton, Duncan Lamont, Avery Edwards, Finn Gillis, Blake Edwards and Kieran Engbrecht for your dedication these past six weeks regardless of the weather, as it seemed we were all witness to almost all 4 seasons at some point this summer. You are a great team and lots of fun to work with! Congratulations as well to all our swimmers for your enthusiasm and energy and for your successes! Great job to those of you who enrolled, came out and got wet. A few short weeks ago, before swimming lessons, you couldn’t: Put your face in the water – now you can. Jump off the dock – now you jump off without fear. Do front crawl without help – now you are swimming on your own. It is because of these lessons, your teacher’s guidance, and your parents’ encouragement, that have made you better swimmers today! We have enjoyed our first year as convenors. We would like to thank everyone who came out for the 200m and 800m swim events, both as participants and volunteers. You made our job a lot easier. As we wrap up this season, we have some new ideas for next year and we look forward to seeing you next year at the swim dock and around the beach. Enjoy the rest of your summer and keep swimming! Lori and Greg Edwards North 59 Art Show Recap The third annual North 59 Land, Water and Air Art Exhibition was a huge success once again this year.
