Remember our Think Rubber and Sheldon Cooper (I'm rubber, you're glue) t-shirts? Well, we have retired those and it's now time for a new t-shirt design/concept. We are looking for ideas - a slogan or phrase, a play off of periodic table elements, something IEC/Pittsburgh related...whatever comes to mind. You could win a $100 gift card if your idea is selected! Email your idea to gc@rubber.org today. Help us extend our outreach to Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and Engineering students who have expressed an interest in the polymer industry; however, don’t have polymer focused programming at their college/university. This is a new audience we are working to
reach – undergraduate students who do not attend schools where we have student chapters. We need to make all aspects of our industry known to these students and there is no better way to achieve that than to bring several of them to our International Elastomer Conference. This will be a great opportunity for these students to gain more knowledge specific to our industry, make connections, and show them how amazing our industry is and why they should be a part of it! We are seeking support to assist with covering 20 student’s hotel, meal and transportation costs, so we can make this possible. The number of students we can bring depends on the support we receive. Support Options: · Sponsor a Student for $750 · Sponsor a School (four students from same school) for $3,000 In addition to the pride you will receive in knowing you are actively working to bring a younger generation into our industry to ensure its continued success, sponsoring companies will receive: · Mention of your support in an IEC Daily article during the conference and in a post IEC Daily article (in Rubber World’s November issue) about this initiative · Mention of your support in social media posts about this initiative · Logo in a thank you ad in the IEC Guide and IEC Dailies This will take some coordination, so the sooner we are able to move forward with this, the better. A Digital Collection Of Stories In History From the famous, to the infamous, to the never heard of, The Story Podcast uncovers the little known backstories of people who have built companies, products, inventions, and brands that have changed the way we live. History builds the present. Where we are today is a result of where we have been. Yet, some of the stories that got us here have remained in the shadows. And the true stories of the people and inventions that have built our world are often lost to time. Our only hope for building a better future is to truly understand what got us to the present. Akron Stories Project The Akron Stories Project is a grassroots initiative to collect, preserve, and celebrate the stories of Akron’s rubber workers and their descendants.
In the late 19th century, Ohio emerged as a leading manufacturer of rubber products, with many of the largest tire and rubber companies in the United States based in the Akron, making it the “Rubber Capital of the World.” For more than 100 years, people flocked from all over the world to earn a good wage and pursue their dreams in Akron. These rubber workers helped The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, B.F. Goodrich, General Tire, The Mohawk Rubber Company, Seiberling Rubber Company, and more earn tremendous wealth, and propelled America through a period of unrivaled leadership, innovation, and industrial success.
