University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt Residents Excel at the 2017 APA Annual Meeting - from Mark Ehrenreich, M.D., Chief of Education and Director of Residency Training A record number of University of Maryland /Sheppard Pratt psychiatry residents were active participants in the 2017 Annual Meeting of the American Psychiatric Association. Twenty residents (three PGY2s, nine PGY3s, and eight PGY4s), two PGY4 child fellows who had fast tracked from our residency program into our child fellowship, and one fourth year medical student presented two workshops, eleven posters, and one press briefing at the annual meeting. I would like to acknowledge their excellent contributions to the broader psychiatric community and for being wonderful ambassadors for our program. WORKSHOPS Benjamin Ehrenreich, M.D. (PGY2) (co-chair), Brian Benjamin, D.O. (PGY2), Albert Nguyen, D.O. (PGY2), Bhinna Park, M.D. (PGY3), and faculty member Ann Hackman, M.D. (co-chair) conducted a workshop on “Utilizing Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) to Prevent Inefficient Use of Psychiatric Resources on Patients with Chronic Mental Illness.” 1

(PGY3) and Marissa Flaherty, M.D. (PGY3) presented a poster on “Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome: A Review of Three Cases and Discussion of the Literature.” 3

(PGY4) and Vittoria DeLuccia, M.D. (PGY4 Child Fellow) presented a poster on “Second- Generation Long-Acting Injectable Antipsychotics vs. Oral Antipsychotics in Relapse Prevention after a First Episode of Psychosis: A Meta-Analysis.” 4
POSTERS Michael Moore, M.D. (PGY4) and Archana Varma, M.D. (PGY4) presented a poster on “Topiramate as Monotherapy or Adjunctive Treatment for PTSD: A Meta-Analysis Poster.” Michael’s and Archana’s work was highlighted by Psych Congress Network. http://www.psychcongress.com/article/topiramate-reduces-hyperarousal-ptsd-review-finds Riddhi Kothari, D.O. A Meta-Analysis.” 7
POSTERS Leah Fegan, M.D. (PGY4) and Charles Koransky, M.D. (PGY4) presented a poster on “Efficacy of Cognitive Behavior Therapy Delivered over the Internet for Depressive Symptoms.” PRESS BRIEFING In addition to presenting a poster, Charles Koransky, M.D. also gave a press briefing at the APA newsroom on his research.
