August 2018 Renowned Artist Daniel Clayman Named Effron Family Endowed Chair in Glass Acclaimed contemporary glass artist Daniel Clayman has begun his tenure at UArts as the Effron Family Endowed Chair in Glass, leading the Glass
concentration in the Craft + Material Studies program. He has long been recognized in the field of glass, with work in the collections of museums and other institutions across the globe, including the Corning Museum of Glass, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution. He is the first endowed chair in the University's history. An endowed position recognizes outstanding faculty and enhances faculty ranks with national and international artists, designers, and scholars. ILL DOOTS is a collective of artists, educators and activists featuring the talents of UArts alumni Anthony Martinez-Briggs BFA '13 (Acting), Scott Ziegler BM '13 (Music Performance, Bass) Andrew Nittoli BM '13 & MM '14 (Music Performance, Percussion), Latasha Morris BM '06 (Voice), Sam Borrello BM '13 (Music Performance, Guitar), Jordan McCree BM '13, (Music Performance, Drums) and Riley Fressie BS '16 (MBET).
In 2009 the group started out as freshman at UArts in a jam session: a kid from Boston who came to UArts to study bass and loved J Dilla, an enthusiastic young drummer from Reading, PA , and an acting student from Maryland who kicked freestyle rhymes. Brought together by an orientation-week open-mic night, ILL DOOTS has evolved from movie samples and sprawling lyrics created in Pine dorm rooms and Merriam Hall into a live, "funky beast" of a band known for "elevating minds, filling hearts, and moving bodies." Angela is a writer and designer who specializes in typography, design,
media, and visual culture. She has taught graduate and undergraduate students, written curricula, and developed new programs for the School of Visual Arts, the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York University, Queens College and the City College of New York. In her role as an art director, Angela has worked for national magazines, book publishers and a wide range of corporate clients. Join Us for UArts Weekend!
