A great way to learn about food from around the word - without leaving your country - is to discover different ethnic restaurants. London, like many big cities and towns, is full of restaurants with all kinds of cuisine: from Albanian to Vietnamese. To taste some of the hottest fajitas in town, you can go to Covent Garden where there are many great Mexican restaurants. Fancy an Indian meal? Head for Brick Lane in East London. There are over 60 Indian and Bangladeshi restaurants there so you are sure to find a delicious and spicy meal.
To try some stir-fried noodles and other Chinese dishes, Chinatown near Leicester Square is the place to go.Or you could visit Borough Market close to London Bridge to buy a healthy snack and then have a picnic by the river or in one of London's many parks. And, finally, to experience some traditional English food, have some delicious pub grub. Pubs are a great place to eat because you can find good food, like roast beef and crunchy roast potatoes, at reasonable prices.

I don’t know whether to have the steak or Thai chicken. Sally: Oh, I’d like the Thai chicken and rice please. Jamie: OK, me too. Waiter: So that’s two Thai chicken and rice. What would you like to drink? Jamie: I’ll have a fresh orange juice and ... Sally: I’d like some mineral water, please. Waiter: OK, thank you.
Pasta with bacon and tomato sauce A RECIPE Ingredients 1 red onion 2 red peppers 120g bacon 1 can (450g) tomatoes 1 cup water olive oil garlic oregano 50g pasta per person • Method • 1.Cut the onion,red peppers and bacon into small pieces. • 2. Heat some olive oil in a pan and fry the onion, red peppers and bacon. • 3. Add oregano, garlic, tomatoes and water and cook for 20 minutes. • 4.Cook the pasta in a big pot of boiling water. • 5.Serve the pasta with the sauce, and enjoy!
A RECIPE STIR-FRIED NOODLES INGREDIENTS 150g pack medium egg noodles 1 tbsp vegetable oil 2½ cm piece fresh ginger, finely chopped 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped 1 large carrot, cut into matchsticks 1 yellow pepper, deseeded and thinly sliced 100g mangetout, sugarsnaps or frozen peas 2 spring onions, finely chopped 85g beansprouts (optional) 2 tbsp soy sauce 1 tsp white wine vinegar Method Cook the noodles according to pack instructions. 1 Meanwhile, heat the oil in a wok or large frying pan, then stir-fry the ginger, garlic, carrot, pepper and mangetout, sugar snap or frozen peas over a high heat for 2-3 mins. 2 Drain the noodles thoroughly, add to the pan with the onions and beansprouts, if using, then stir-fry for 2 mins. 3 Mix together the soy sauce and vinegar, stir into the pan, then cook for 1-2 mins. Divide between individual plates or bowls and serve immediately.
INGREDIENTS CHOCOLATE CAKE 2 cups sugar 2 eggs 1 cup milk 1 1/2 cup vegetable oil 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 cup boiling water METHOD Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans. Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla; beat on medium speed of mixer 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; Remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely. Frost with "perfectly chocolate" chocolate frosting. Makes 12 servings.
ROAST BEEF The best known British dish which people eat at home is roast beef. Most families eat this on Sundays. It is served with vegetables, gravy and Yorkshire pudding.
YORKSHIRE PUDDING
BANGERS AND MASH Bangers and mash in a typical pub lunch. It is a dish with sausages and mashed potatoes, and is quick and easy to make. It is very tasty!
FISH AND CHIPS Fish and chip shops are especially popular in seaside towns. People eat fish and chips with salt and vinegar.
SUSHI Sushi is a Japanese food consisting of cooked vinegared rice combined with other ingredients, seafood, vegetables and sometimes tropical fruits.
NOODLES Noodles are a staple food in many cultures made from unleavened dough which is stretched, extruded, or rolled flat and cut into one of a variety of shapes.
FAJITAS The fajitas are a typical dish of Mexican meat, accompanied by rice , pepper and onion, beans or grilled vegetables, with the addition of a spice mix reproducible with cumin, hot pepper, paprika and oregano. This preparation can be served in many ways: as a hot dish or lying on a tortilla which is then wrapped around the fajita.
TORTILLA Tortilla in Spanish means "little cake". The word applies to several different foods eaten in various Spanish- speaking countries.
CURRY Curry is a spicy Indian dish made with meat, fish or vegetables. It is cooked with spices.
