Market report from Tour Operators
Biggest challenges • Not being able to travel without quarantine (84% said they will not travel if there is a chance of quarantine at destination) • No official documentation for vaccines • Uncertainty • Getting people to commit • Flight cancellations & changes • Not helpful that the government states its too early to book a holiday
Current Focus • Selling the UK to the UK market • Winter 2021-22 & Summer 2022 • Postponements of existing April & May bookings • Cancellations • Updating existing and adding new packages • Internal projects like CRM-systems etc • Only essential work
“We have lots of people who want to Outlook for 2021 travel but don’t want to commit, as they are not sure if they will be able to go.” • Very few international travellers this summer • Hoping that some holidays will be possible from summer but focusing on autumn and winter • Sceptical about Scandinavia opening for this summer • Depends on the announcement on 12th April by our government • Some new bookings, but many people have postponed until 2022 • Many people want to travel if they are allowed, but they are not prepared to quarantine • We may see a rush for European destinations once borders are open and paperwork is sorted out
Norway bookings • Only getting UK clients booking UK holidays at the moment • “Norway is still one of our most popular destinations” • “Compared to other destinations Norway is still trailing behind Iceland Finland has had a better come back in 2021. However, this is mostly Lapland-trips, and families wanting to treat their children after a year of lockdown to a trip to see Father Christmas” • Bookings are quite good for Norway but would be better if we can travel • Postponements…
Tour Operator needs • “Just the same great service “ • Rates ready for 2022 (“We need to make sure we receive 2021/22 winter rates from our suppliers as we are always having to chase them”) • Cancellation flexibility • Any news on more unique, creative and inspirational accommodation, also any new sustainable offerings from hotels or excursion providers • Quick replies to enquiries so we are all set • Clarity on COVID policies and clear details on if the supplier can support with testing prior to clients returning to the UK Image: TTG
