LEADER ENGAGEMENTS High Tech Site Visit FHL hosted Col. Craig Worsham of the 80th TC and Col. Christine Rummel of the 102d Training Division, July 29-30, 2021. The focus of the visit was the continued analysis of relocating the High Tech Regional Training Site (HT-RTS) in Sacramento to FHL. LEADER ENGAGEMENTS United Kingdom Royal Air Force (RAF) Visits Members of the FHL Command Team and the MAB Delivery Squadron, Airborne Delivery Wing, United Kingdom Royal Air Force (RAF) met to discuss utilization of FHL for continued training, August 4, 2021. Having a dedicated crash response and medical team on stand-by allows them to focus on quality training. The abundance of drop zones enables drops on multiple DZs from the same aircraft. Group Captain Burdett said, “FHL firefighters assisted in clearing some trees/foliage on the approach zones of the FHL airstrip the day prior to air operations. The care and responsiveness to their needs was impressive and appreciated.” (Courtesy photos)
WORKFORCE RECOGNITIONS DES Promotion of Fire Captain Fire Captain Michael Callahan was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief of Training in a pinning ceremony at the DES Building August 2, 2021. He had been in a temporary position as Training Chief before being hired permanently, and earning his third bugle. Fire and police personnel as well as others were on hand to congratulate him. SOLDIER & FAMILY PROGRAMS 246th Chaplain Anniversary Programs The 246th Chaplain Anniversary hosted by the Religious Support Office executed a hike to White Cross early morning, July 29, 2021. Following was a luncheon held at the Hacienda. Chaplain (Col.) Eweama served as the guest speaker, bringing along with him four other chaplains from Presidio of Monterey. This is the largest attended event held by the RSO at FHL in recent years. Eweama kept the standing room audience engaged and shared relevant chaplain ministry experiences before a cake cutting ceremony and luncheon prepared by the Hacienda. SOLDIER & FAMILY PROGRAMS Cybrary Comic and Anime Convention The Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Cybrary team hosted a successful Mini Comic and Anime Convention event at the Cybrary, July 23, 2021. Participants enjoyed streaming anime, browsing comics, making crafts, playing games and video games in the computer room, and taking photos. Some of the participants competed in a puzzle game and costume contest. The winners received prizes. Goodie bags and giveaways such as pin buttons, bracelets, key chains, and shirt anime and comic iron-on appliques were available to take home. (Photos by DFMWR Staff)
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT USO Luncheon for Moffett Soldiers More than 100 Soldiers and Service members from Moffett Field enjoyed lunch on the United Services Organization at Moffett Field's Chapel complex, July 21, 2021. The Service members enjoyed a choice of steak, chicken or veggie burrito, chips, salsa and drink provided by Chipotle. The event was just one of the many partnership events between the installations at Parks Reserve Forces Training Area and Moffett Field’s DFMWR and USO held during the year to support military members and their families at the two posts. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT Launch of Wireless ISP BOINGO Barbecue Event More than 100 Soldiers and Civilian employees enjoyed a barbecue courtesy of Boingo Internet Services, at Parks Reserve Forces Training Area, July 24, 2021. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PRFTA Karaoke Night Parks Reserve Forces Training Area hosted Karaoke Night at the Community Activity Center, July 30, 2021. More than 25 people participated the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation event at the CAC. It was one of many events hosted by DFMWR to build community and esprit de corps among residents and employees. GARRISON READINESS Earthquake Drill at PRFTA Parks Reserve Forces Training Area Emergency Operations Center Alpha response team coordinated a response to an exercise scenario involving a magnitude 7.7 earthquake disaster in the vicinity of Fort Hunter Liggett, July 28, 2021. PRFTA’s EOC, located in the headquarters building, is manned by personnel from across the installation in the event of a emergency or casualty requiring coordinated response and communication. In case the FHL EOC would need to evacuate, PRFTA, a sub installation of FHL, would assume the role of primary Emergency Operations Center until FHL’s EOC became operational again. GARRISON READINESS PRFTA Celebrates ACS Birthday Parks Reserve Forces Training Area celebrates Army Community Services 56th Birthday at PRFTA’s PX parking lot, July 28, 2021. Lt. Col. Serena Johnson, Command Sgt. Maj. Sam MacKenzie, and ACS Specialist Tania O’Hara hosted a birthday celebration for ACS this week for the PRFTA Community in coordination with the American Legion Danville Mt. Diablo Post 246. GARRISON READINESS Army Antiterrorism Proclamation Signing Col. Lisa Lamb signed the Antiterrorism Proclamation in front of the garrison Headquarters, July 30, 2021. Several copies will be distributed around the various directorates. The Department of the Army designates August as Antiterrorism Awareness Month. Army units remain an attractive domestic extremist and terrorist target. Recent attacks demonstrate a focus of violence toward targets of opportunity involving large gatherings. An effective antiterrorism program promoting vigilance, awareness, information sharing and response measures is key to unit readiness and mission assurance. (Photos Cindy McIntyre, FHL PAO)
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENTS FHL Participates in Local National Night Out Fort Hunter Liggett Command and Emergency Services participated in National Night Out in King City and Soledad, August 3, 2021. Command Sgt. Maj. Mark Fluckiger (bottom left) was interviewed by KRKC Radio during the event. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENTS PRFTA Participates in Local National Night Out Parks Reserve Forces Training Area Department of Emergency Services participated in a National Night Out event with the neighboring community of Dublin. DES personnel and Command Sgt. Maj. Sam MacKenzie engaged with the Boulevard housing community adjacent to the installation, Aug. 3, 2021. More than 40 local residents met the DES personnel and sat in their service vehicles. GARRISON READINESS PRFTA Space Utilization Working Group Parks Reserve Forces Training Area hosted a Space Utilization Working Group Meeting with its tenant units, Aug. 4, 2021. PRFTA command team and personnel from Directorate of Public Works and other organizations on PRFTA and Fort Hunter Liggett hosted a Space Utilization Working Group meeting to discus future plans for tenant and garrison assets at PRFTA. SUPPORT TO TRAINING 397 EN BN ECT FHL Troop Construction Projects The 397th Engineer Battalion HHC / 672/751 EN DET established BN CP and conducted TOC operations, coordinated and provided liaison support with FHL personnel, established range operations, and completed QA/QC of BN construction projects over the past weeks at FHL. 801st EN CO successfully constructed a firing line pad and will complete construction of slope shed over the pad to allow Crocker Range to be used for future operations/training events. The 322nd EN CO constructed a 24x 32 concrete Maintenance Pad and performed cuts to prepare supplies for shaded structures to be built in future, The 672nd UTL completed construction of a Fire Fighter Pad to allow future training to be completed at FHL. SUPPORT TO TRAINING Summer hire trip to KION News The Public Affairs office took some FHL summer hires to KION-TV in Salinas for a behind the scenes look in a news studio, July 28, 2021. The group met with Victor Guzman, managing editor and reporter who guided them through the station and gave opportunity to meet staff and watch a live broadcast for Telemundo 23. Many of the employees handle multiple job assignments, from camera work to anchoring. One of the summer hires, Alex Gotmer has a background in theater and hopes to pursue more work with theater after college. This trip gave Gotmer an inside look how passion can become a reality in a career field he had not thought of before. (Photos Akuaha Moreno, FHL PAO)
SUPPORT TO TRAINING DPW Fall Risk Safety Course FHL Directorate of Public Works hosted Fall Protection Awareness training at the O&M yard, July 29, 2021. Awareness training expert, Bob Schmit of CERTEX based in Bakersfield, worked with maintenance mechanic Rob Ellebracht to illustrate proper protections in wearing apparel, connections, anchorage points, equipment and rescue methods.
