TULIP TALKS THE QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER FOR THE PNZCT SOUTHERN REGION ISSUE 1 | MARCH 2021 Red Tulip Appeal 11th - 17th April 2021 Parkinson's New Zealand annual appeal week has moved from November each year to April, to align with World Parkinson's Day. World Parkinson's Day is recognised on the 11th of April each year all around the world with various activities planned by Parkinson's Groups globally. To align our own activities with the global Parkinson's community, we have moved our Appeal week to April. This April, your local Action Group has various activities planned including the sale of tulip bulbs and collections at various supermarkets and malls in Kia Ora Nelson! your region. Community Engagement Advisor Northern Until recently, the responsibility for this service had fallen to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Nelson (MS Nelson). In recent times, however, Parkinson’s NZ has taken on the responsibility of meeting the needs of people living with Parkinsonism conditions in this area. What does this mean? The truth is that you probably will not notice any differences! As a result of this seamless shift, Claire Fisher will continue to provide the same level of high calibre services to her clients in the region. The Red Tulip is the symbol of our charity, and has been associated with Parkinson's awareness since the 1980's. Donations to assist us to fund this service in Nelson are always welcome!

Tulip bulbs will be sold as part of the Red Tulip Appeal and preorders through April and May. Packets of five bulbs sell UPBEAT 2019 was held in Whangarei for $7.00. TULIP TALKS – SOUTHERN REGION ISSUE 1 – MARCH 2021 Andrew Dunn showcasing his Kiwibank New Zealand Local Heros Winner Medal for Otago Andrew Dunn is Officially a Hero! We are thrilled that Andrew Dunn has been recognised as one of the top 100 medallists for the Kiwibank New Zealand local hero awards. Andrew was one of the original founders of Parkinson’s New Zealand 38 years ago and is currently a Board Member as well as Chairperson of two regional volunteer Action Groups. Andrew shared this response upon receiving the news: “I am humbled to be chosen as a local hero. The recognition of volunteers is a wonderful salute to kindness, to community initiative and success that a wider group can feel part of. Parkinson's New Zealand continues to be a vital charity for people living with this progressive neurological condition and I am proud to have so many dedicated people working alongside me.”
