TULIP TALKS – SOUTHERN REGION ISSUE 2 – JUNE 2021 Parkinson's Wanaka Conference Retreat (May 1 & 2, 2021) This May, Carol and a hundred clients and carers attended the Parkinson's Wanaka Conference held at the beautiful Edgewater Resort in Wanaka. Carol has written a short story about her experience during the weekend. "We had a great time at Wanaka’s Edgewater Resort for the first-ever Parkinson's Wanaka Conference on May 1 and 2. Over 100 people attended the day and a half event which included wonderful speakers, including Dr.Barry Snow, a well-known neurologist, Gilly Davy, a renowned physiotherapist from PD Warrior, Dr.Glenda Wallace, a clinical psychologist, Ellen Smoothy, a physiotherapist dealing with breathing methods, Ashley Booth, a physiotherapist and tutor of the Wanaka exercise group, and Geoff Woodcock, an author speaking about the power of joy. All of these people presented a clear and concise lecture with lots of fun and laughter, bringing new knowledge of the condition to sufferers and carers alike. Oamaru, Balclutha, Clyde, Alexandra, Wanaka, Queenstown, and Dunedin were all represented by people linked with one thing in common – Parkinson's - and it was amazing, informative, and, at times, humbling to be part of this wonderful conference. Utmost thanks to our wonderful Parkinson's Nurse, Paula Ryan, and to The Michael and Kate Sidey Charitable Trust for their generous support. Well done Otago, and looking forward to a repeat in the future!"
