What?
As part of preparatory works for the Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) line, crews have been
relocating utility east of Highway 400 on Finch Avenue West. In mid-January, similar work will begin,
from east of Islington Ave. to west of Signet Dr/Oakdale Rd. Crews and equipment will be working in
multiple locations. The activities primarily will occur Monday to Friday and involve overnight work.
There may be some work on weekend.
Traffic patterns will change along Finch Ave. W. as temporary changes will be made to lanes,
crossings, sidewalks, and boulevards to allow crew to safely complete work. Motorists and
pedestrians should be aware of and adhere to traffic/pedestrian signage and flag persons.
Utility relocation is one of the key steps of the project and the most complex as it requires a major
design and coordination effort between Metrolinx, our contractor, the City of Toronto and/or affected
utility companies. Utility work is taking place in stages and will continue until mid-2022. Please see the
map above for traffic, transit, and pedestrian changes to expect in the area over the next six months.
Additional preparation activities to expect include tree/vegetation removal, fence removals, as well as
geotechnical investigations to collect soil, water and rock condition data. Where access to private
property is required, our contractor and their subcontractors will seek permission, in advance.
WORKS BETWEEN ISLINGTON AVE. AND SIGNET DR./OAKDALE RD.:
• Crews will relocate utilities to make room for the Finch West LRT between east of Islington Ave. and west of
Signet Dr.
• Dry utility works include relocation of telecommunication infrastructure (i.e. Bell, Rogers, etc.), hydro poles, and
underground duct banks and power cables.
• Wet utility works include relocation of watermains, and sanitary and storm sewers.
• In general, most utility work will be on the north side of Finch Ave. W. but some work will also occur on the
south side. (see above).
• Tree/vegetation removal, fence removals, geotechnical investigations to collect soil, water and rock condition
date.
WORK HOURS:
• Monday to Friday, day and night.
• Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
WHAT TO EXPECT
• Due to the nature of the work, at times there will be noise and vibration.

• Works anticipated to have higher noise or vibration will be prioritized before 11 pm.
• Some properties will experience water shut offs, or lower than usual water pressure. Affected property owners
will be notified separately, in advance.
• Some properties will experience planned power outages. Affected property owners will be notified
separately, in advance.
• Heavy trucks and equipment in the area.
• Expect traffic delays near work zones.
• Dust.
TRAFFIC DETAILS (SEE MAPS):
• Lane closures are required to safely conduct the work.
• At least one lane in each direction will be maintained.
• Access to businesses, schools and churches will be maintained, unless otherwise communicated.
• Please allow extra time for your journey.
PEDESTRIAN AND TRANSIT DETAILS (SEE MAP):
• Pedestrian access will be maintained.
• Please take extra care when navigating near work zones, and always make eye contact with the driver.
• TTC bus stops will be closed or relocated away from work zones, as needed.
• Relocation of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC.
• Access to TTC will be maintained at all times.
