Hoshino Resorts Press Release HOSHINOYA Tokyo (Otemachi, Tokyo) Passing Down Edo Culture to The Present Day Tokyo Summer Nights 2020 Dates: July 1st – August 31st, 2020 From July 1st to August 31st, Japanese ryokan HOSHINOYA Tokyo will host the Tokyo Summer Nights 2020 again this year, which is an event that passes down Edo culture to the present day. For this event, special installations will be put in place around the building, and special activities and food will be provided to show the beauty of the games, arts, and food from the city of Edo. In addition to the Rooftop Open-Air Onsen, where the open-air onsen will be decorated with paper lanterns, and the papercutting activity where participants follow instructions to fold and cut paper into the shapes of the crests of Edo families, this year will feature the HOSHINOYA Tokyo SAKE Bar as well, which will be open to both guests and visitors. Objective In the Edo period, the area around Otemachi (where HOSHINOYA Tokyo is located) was home to the estates of several daimyo clans, so there were a lot of people there, and the area developed its own traditional arts, foods, and games. HOSHINOYA Tokyo created this event in order to show modern people the beauty and wonder of the unique culture that grew out of this city. Hoping that this will be the catalyst that leads to people experiencing the Otemachi culture that began in Edo and the summer lifestyle of Edo residents, and rediscovering the amazing culture of Edo.
