TIGERS, CUBS & ELEPHANTS A PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI IN INDIA WITH CANON MASTER DARREN JEW 12th – 26th March 2016 Join multi-award winning nature photographer Darren Jew on this incredible safari in India to explore the mighty national parks of Corbett for the awe inspiring elephants & then to Bandhavgarh in search of their most recent additions – Tiger cubs!! See what has had everyone from BBC to Nat Geo Wild channel so excited to see these incredible tiger and elephant animal families in the wild, right now before the cubs grow up! The tiger cubs will be around 10 months old at the time of our trip and very much in the active, playful stage of life. This is a very small group adventure, to give you maximum space to photograph in an open 4x4 vehicle with only 3 passengers plus either Darren or Emma or our local specialist guide in each vehicle with a maximum of 9 passengers. Even though these vehicles hold up to 6 passengers, we will not put more than 3 passengers in one vehicle plus guide. We have selected March as a great time for viewing, the tigers still have their thicker and more brightly coloured winter coat and the weather is lovely.
Darren will both provide photographic mentoring in the field and will also display techniques for processing images at the end of the day in Lightroom, to obtain the best results for photography in these conditions. This is a very basic lodge safari (very simple rooms have beds, basic private bathrooms and fans) and all meals on safari and all transfers are included, meals in Delhi and any meals for the travelling to and from the parks are not included. We will actually stay inside the park at Corbett and very close to the entrance at Bandhavgarh, giving us more time in the parks. PLANNING INFORMATION Whilst these types of journeys are always exploratory photographic expeditions, we will be committed within the conditions to obtain maximum viewing & even more importantly quality viewing of the tigers as well as other wildlife. Increasing accommodation costs would double our trip costs, so this is suitable for those who are ok with a budget level of accommodation (2 – 3 star) to focus on the wildlife viewing quality instead. We have obtained full day access for our entire stay in Corbett and special access permits for half of the days in Bandhavgarh to ensure this happens, giving us much more time than the usual visitors and the ability to explore all areas with our specialist expert local guides. We recommend flying with Singapore Airlines to Delhi to arrive in the evening and depart in the morning to best suit this schedule.
We can assist with arranging your flights. If you wish to fly another airline but arrive at these times, we will be able to transfer you with the group. If you are only able to arrive at another time, we can arrange a private transfer for you at additional expense. It is also possible to assist with pre/post tour arrangements in India or or any of the surrounding countries – this is a region that Emma has explored widely and travelled to numerous times. All photographs have been provided by Darren from our 2015 trip and also by our expert local contact. OUR ITINERARY DAY 1 Arrive in Delhi at 8.10pm and be met at the airport and transferred to our basic hotel close to the train station. We will overnight in Delhi. DAY 2 Early in the morning we will travel by car to Corbett National Park (6 hours). We enter the national park and stay in a forest rest house inside the park boundary, which is very basic in twin rooms with private bathrooms (2.5 star standard) but extremely conveniently based, elephants are often seen near here! We enjoy a half day safari in the afternoon. DAYS 3-5 We will spend full days on safari with breaks in-between for meals in search of the best possible wildlife sightings including the magnificent elephants and some fantastic bird life. DAY 6 We will check out of our forest rest house after our morning safari and return to Delhi by car (6 hours). We will overnight in Delhi near the airport.
DAY 7 Morning transfer to the airport for our flight to Jabalpur, we expect to arrive in Bandhavgarh National Park by lunchtime. Our home for the next week is in twin share cottages conveniently located 15 minutes from the park entry. DAYS 8-10 We spend our mornings and afternoons on safari, with time at leisure in the middle of the day. In search of the majestic tigers here. DAYS 11-13 We spend full days from dawn till dusk with incredible ranging access within the park to find the Tigresses & their cubs in the beautiful surroundings. DAY 14 Transfer to Jabalpur airport for our morning flight back to Delhi and overnight near the airport. The rest of the day is at leisure. DAY 15 Morning transfer for our flight home departing at 09.30am. COSTS 12 – 26 March 2016 - $6950USD per person twin share.
