FACEBOOK ADDS NEW CHAT THEMES, A QUICK REPLY BAR,
AND QR CODE PAYMENTS TO MESSENGER
Facebook has added new chat themes to help personalise and enhance your
conversations and a quick reply bar that makes it easier to respond to content
shared by your friends and family. The platform has also now added QR codes
and links to send and receive payments from any other user, even if you are
not Facebook friends.

FACEBOOK NOW ENABLES YOU TO EMBED FACEBOOK
VIDEOS AT A CHOSEN TIME IN THE PLAYBACK.
Facebook has added a new checkbox into its video embed process which
enables you to choose a specific time within the video playback at which you
want your embed to play from.

The new feature enables you to enter a start time for your playback, so you
can choose a specific section that you want the clip to play from, helping to
guide people to the most relevant segment, as opposed to simply enabling full
playback.

FACEBOOK ADDS NEW ‘OPTIMIZE TEXT PER PERSON’ OPTION
FOR AUTOMATED AD CUSTOMISATION
Facebook is now rolling out a new option in the ad set-up process called
‘Optimise Text Per Person’, which, when activated, will choose whether to
highlight the primary caption, the headline or the description text to each
user, based on what Facebook’s system determines that viewer will best
respond to.

FACEBOOK ADDS SHOPS TO WHATSAPP, AMONG OTHER
ECOMMERCE UPDATES
Facebook is making it even easier to buy stuff while you scroll past photos of
your high school lab partner’s dog.

Yes, Instagram Shops and Facebook Marketplace are already displayed
prominently on the apps’ bottom navigation tabs. But now, you can shop on
WhatsApp too, along with other updates.

INSTAGRAM ADDS NEW ELEMENTS TO ITS BRANDED
CONTENT TOOLS, INCLUDING MULTI-BRAND LISTINGS IN
POSTS.
Instagram has announced some new updates to its Branded Content tools,
which are designed to further increase transparency, while also making it
easier for brands and creators to manage Branded Content requests and
approvals.

PINTEREST ADDS NEW PRONOUNS FIELD ON PROFILES, AND
LAUNCHES NEW SUPPORT INITIATIVES FOR PRIDE MONTH.
With Pride Month now underway, Pinterest has launched a new campaign to
showcase the inclusivity benefits and features of the platform, while it’s also
adding a new pronouns option on both personal and business accounts to
help users better express their identity.

TWITTER LAUNCHES ‘TWITTER
BLUE’, ITS NEW, PAID SUBSCRIPTION
OFFERING FOR ADD-ON TWEET

Twitter has officially launched its new ‘Twitter Blue’
subscription service, which enables users to pay a monthly fee to gain access
to a range of additional tweet features and tools.

TWITTER BLUE EXPLAINED: FOR A FEE YOU CAN UNDO
TWEET, BOOKMARK, AND MORE
Twitter’s newest offering, Twitter Blue, is a paid subscription service that gives
users access to a slew of new features including an ‘Undo Tweet’ feature and
new bookmarking tools. The update joins a line-up of recent updates to the
platform, including Clubhouse competitor Spaces and Snapchat ‘Stories’-like
feature Fleets, as well as a number of safety tools designed to mitigate terms
violations and the spread of misinformation.

TWITTER CONTINUES WORK ON ITS NEW SPACES TAB AND
ADDS EDITING OPTIONS FOR SCHEDULED SPACES.
As Clubhouse downloads continue to slow, Twitter continues to add new
elements to boost the use of its own audio Spaces option, which will soon
include a new, dedicated Spaces tab in the middle of the bottom function bar
to improve Spaces discovery.

TWITTER IS ADDING A NEW ‘SUBSCRIBE’ BUTTON TO
NEWSLETTER CREATOR PROFILES
As its suite of creator monetisation tools continues to expand, Twitter is now
adding another element to help newsletter creators, with a new, prominent
‘Subscribe’ button on their profiles, linked back to its recently acquired Revue
platform.

Inspired by a recent Green Umbrella Live Lunch
where we discussed podcasts, I decided to explore the
stats surrounding them.

Our consumption of podcasts has increased year on year, helped in many
ways by the pandemic, and it seems this audio trend for marketing content
is here to stay.

 In 2020, there were over 15 million podcast listeners in the UK. The
  audience is growing steadily with forecasts predicting close to 20 million
  listeners by 2024
 Podcasts are still most popular amongst younger – mid aged audiences,
  with close to 40% of listeners in the age 26 to 35 bracket claiming to listen
  to podcasts on a weekly basis
 The majority of listeners say they tune into podcasts while travelling or
  driving
 Sports, comedy and music are the top podcast categories in the UK
 Despite this, around ¾ of listeners say the top reason they tune into a
  podcast is to learn something new
 55% of the US population have listened to a podcast, with 37% claiming to
  have listened to one in the last month. Both stats are up from 2019.
 There are in excess of 850,000 podcasts to choose from globally, with
  more than 30 million podcast episodes
 More than 80% of podcast listeners spend around 7 hours per week
  listening to podcasts, that’s over an hour per day!
 Why are podcasts so popular? It’s because they are generally free to
  listeners, accessible and easy to consume in small chunks.
 The top podcast platforms are iTunes/ Apple podcasts, Spotify, Google
  Podcasts and Stitcher
