Message from the Education Director Dear Students, Families, and Friends of the Stadium, The Stadium Theatre is a vibrant and inspiring environment. It is home to hundreds of local and out of state artists who travel here daily to explore and develop their passion for the theater. These aspiring young actors and seasoned artists play an integral part in the theatre’s success and daily energetic atmosphere. Recently we renovated parts of the adjacent Stadium Conservatory building, allowing us to expand course offerings. As a result, our 2017-2018 season was one of the most successful years in Stadium history. The potential for development in curriculum and experience for theatre artists at the Stadium Theatre and Conservatory is exponential. Registrations are now being accepted for the Winter 2019 semester, beginning January 7th. It is my privilege to work with you or your child in pursuing your theatre goals. Contemporary musical theatre dance workshop December 2018 For Ages 16 to Adult - Tuition $40 Saturday, December 8th 12 PM - 2 PM Broadway has recently experienced an evolution of dance! When it comes to some of the most recent hit productions, musicals such as Bring It On, In the Heights, and Hamilton feature not only modern dialect and cultural references, but the choreography is strongly influenced by hip hop and pop culture. Briana Asante This workshop is designed for actors and dancers who are looking to Instructor challenge themselves, and experience contemporary style dance. The class will start with a warm-up and brief presentation. Short combos will be taught as well as a complete routine. This workshop will teach participants the evolution of musical theatre dance while broadening their personal dance experience. Landing the role Winter 2019 For Ages 10 to 15 - Tuition $200 10 Weeks - Mondays, January 7th to March 11th 4 PM to 6 PM This course is designed for eager actors with little audition experience. Throughout the course, participants will focus on how to prepare for and execute the perfect audition. Students will participate in mock auditions for directors, music directors and choreographers who will offer constructive feedback. Soundwaves Winter 2019 For Ages 14 to 18 - Tuition $200 10 Weeks - Tuesdays, January 8th to March 12th 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM Become Pitch Perfect in this 10 week course. Participants will learn to combine movement with vocals while learning music and choreography from a variety of Broadway musicals. Students will be included in several performances throughout the year at the Stadium Theatre. Performances may include the annual Stephanie Rose Witz Instructor Stadium Theatre Christmas, in-house musicals, and back-up vocals for touring bands. Intro to Musical Theatre Winter 2019 For Ages 6 to 14 - Tuition $200 (per session) This 10-week musical theatre course is designed to teach young aspiring artists all aspects of staging a musical theatre production. Through the use of theatre games and activities, participants will gain knowledge in how to audition, memorize lines and lyrics as well as choreography and stage direction. Intro to Musical Theatre is led by theatre majors and veteran artists. Intermediate Musical Theatre Winter 2019 For Ages 10 to 14 - Tuition $200 10 Weeks - Wednesdays, January 9th to March 13th 4 PM to 6 PM This course is designed for students who have previous introductory musical theatre experience. Intermediate Musical Theatre will teach participants how to create and develop their characters through fun techniques. Students in this course can also expect to perfect their audition skills, practice scene study using scripts, and work on Dillon Tognacci advanced blocking. Instructor The session will culminate in a Musical Theatre Finale on the Stadium’s grand hall stage on Thursday, March 21st. Prior acting experience required. There is no box office or online registration for this course. Ballet Babies Winter 2019 For Ages 3 to 5 - Tuition $125 10 Weeks - Wednesdays, January 9th to March 13th 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM This beginner level class will give young students a technical foundation for the basics of ballet. Motions and terminology are introduced in a fun, friendly, and positive fashion. Students will learn the proper ways to warm up and stretch, and focus on spatial awareness, working with partners and their own personal space. Joseph Carr The class curriculum will move along in a way that is appropriate for Instructor children 3-5 years of age, emphasizing listening and attention skills needed to pursue ballet or any form of dance. I got rhythm! Winter 2019 For Ages 3 to 5 - Tuition $125 10 Weeks - Thursdays, January 10th to March 14th 4 PM to 5 PM Does your little one love to sing or make up dances on their own? In I Got Rhythm, children will be inspired to be creative, interactive, and their silly selves! Students will develop social skills, while having a blast learning basic dance elements, playing movement and imagination sparking games, Kaylee Arruda which all inspire healthy living. Students will also learn new ways to Instructor express themselves and gain coordination thru the infusion of objects such as rhythm sticks, scarves, and floor mats. It’s an exciting hour of expelling energy and having fun! Attire is comfortable. Shorts, leggings, sweatpants, t-shirt. theatrical makeup Winter 2019 For Ages 14 to Adult - Tuition $200 10 Weeks - Thursdays, January 10th to March 14th 4 PM to 6 PM From monsters to maidens and everything in-between, makeup is the face of every production. In this 10-week Theatrical Makeup course, students will use the tools of the trade to learn what it takes to transform the actor into any character. Participants will gain knowledge of makeup materials and techniques. Throughout the Ashley Lopes course, students will learn concepts such as shadowing, aging, scars, Instructor and hair styling. Theatrical Makeup students who complete the course may be eligible to volunteer backstage for Stadium musical productions, helping backstage with costuming, hair, and makeup. Students must bring their own Ben Nye Theatrical Creme Pro Makeup Kit. This can be found and purchased online. Without the purchase of the Makeup Kit, some makeup looks may be harder to accomplish. If you cannot purchase the kit, Students are responsible for purchasing the following items: • Creme or liquid foundation • Creme contour and highlight (no shimmer) • Translucent setting powder • Spirit gum • Spirit gum remover • Blush (creme or powder) • A black eyeliner pencil • Lip liner pencil (red or natural tone) • Sponges • Makeup brushes (powder brush, small eyeshadow brush, blending eyeshadow brush, liner brush) 12 Student Maximum Instructor biography can be found on page 23 10
mommy and me! Winter 2019 For Ages 18 Months to 3 Years - Tuition $115 10 Weeks - Fridays, January 11th to March 15th 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM Children often respond to music and sounds before they can do many things. You and your child will participate in singing songs and dancing together. In Mommy and Me, rhythm, melody, and harmony will be explored. This class presents the opportunity for parents to bond with their Betsy Drumm children while they develop movement skills in an entertaining and Instructor safe environment. Participants will explore sound interaction using various instruments in addition to music. Attire should include comfortable clothing as participants will be seated on floor mats. theatre tikes Winter 2019 For Ages 4 to 6 - Tuition $125 10 Weeks - Saturdays, January 12th to March 16th 9 AM to 10 AM In this 10-week course, children will harness their imagination through make-believe play and learning how to tell stories. Theatre Tikes will sing songs with movement, play games and make crafts. Students will gain experience in simple prop and costume design by crafting their own pieces, and they will tour the theatre to see what Betsy Drumm Instructor happens behind the scenes. This course will provide a foundation for a lifetime of theatre appreciation while improving social skills and building confidence. Theatre Tikes culminates in a recital based off a classic children’s story, performed for families at the end of the session. Tap for the Modern Stage Winter 2019 For Ages 16 to Adult - Tuition $150 10 Weeks - Saturdays, January 12th to March 16th 12 PM to 1:30 PM Have you ever desired to be cast in a show such as Anything Goes, 42nd Street, or Thoroughly Modern Millie? This class focuses on the Broadway, chorus-line traditional style Tap. Students will be provided an excellent foundation for any style of tap, including rhythm tap and jazz tap. Jennifer Webb Instructor Tap for the Modern Stage is an excellent option for those just beginning, or those who need a review of the basics! Fundamentals of Acting Winter 2019 For Ages 16 through Adult - Tuition $200 10 Weeks - Saturdays, January 12th to March 16th 3 PM to 5 PM In this 10-week course, students will study and apply different acting techniques which may be utilized for their individual or group work. Students will be given the opportunity to work on monologues, and scenes from one act or full length plays with scene partners. Actors will be provided with feedback and guidance directly from their instructor, William Deschenes as well as class for improvement upon presentations. Second City workshop Improv 101 January 2019 For Ages 18 to Adult - Tuition $40 Saturday, January 12th 11 AM - 1 PM The Second City has been bringing the funny for over 50 years. They began as a small comedy theater and have grown to become today’s leading brand in improv‑based sketch comedy. You may recognize alum from Second City such as Tina Fey, Chris Farley, Bill Murray, and Keegan-Michael Key. The Second City’s overall slate of educational programs is based on the idea that Improvisation in all forms can improve your life by encouraging teamwork and collaboration. This workshop is open to those who may have little to no experience improvising or seasoned artists seeking a brush up on the basics of improv. Those who register should come to class prepared to involve themselves in group discussion and be open to using their imagination. This workshop is presented by Second City Artists. 20 Student Maximum 15
Audition workshop January 2019 For Ages 16 to Adult - Tuition $40 Saturday, January 26th 12 PM - 2:30 PM This workshop is for adult actors who are seeking knowledge in proper preparation for auditions. This workshop promises to leave attendees feeling eager and prepared to present themselves to casting teams in a professional and polished manner. The day will begin with a brief introduction and a question and answer session related to auditioning. Matthew Students will then transition into a song and monologue review. Bretschneider Participants will gain personal knowledge through advice and critique Instructor from the instructor, and will learn from observing fellow participant’s work. Those registered should prepare and bring with them 16 bars of a musical theatre song of their choice, as well as a one and a half to two minute monologue (dramatic or comedic). Principles of Lighting Design Winter 2019 For Ages 14 to Adult - Tuition $200 10 Weeks - Mondays, January 28th to April 1st 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM This class explores the artistry of lighting design for the stage. Students will gain an overall knowledge by working hands on with equipment, while learning how and where to apply elements in a final design project. In addition, students will observe the function and responsibility of a lighting designer prior to and during tech week Dean Palmer Jr. for a production. Instructor This class will emphasize the conceptual and collaborative side of lighting design. For Ages 5 to 16 - Tuition $175 Winter Stage participants will be placed in appropriate age groups. February 18th - February 22nd 9 AM - 4 PM Get your child out of the house and onto the stage this February vacation week! At the Stadium’s Winter Stage theatre camp, students will step into the spotlight singing songs and performing choreographed scenes. Under the direction of experienced musical theatre instructors, Winter Stage performers will learn about vocal pitch, timing and rhythm, while boosting self-confidence and encouraging team building skills. On the final day, every student will perform on the Stadium Theatre’s grand hall stage in a final recital for family and friends. Winter Stage 2019 Theme: ROCK! Join us to find out who put the ROCK into ROCK ‘N’ ROLL! This witty and delightful musical discovers how different rock styles developed through the decades with a humorous script, eight original songs and choreography! 18
Monologue workshop April 2019 For Ages 16 to Adult - Tuition $40 Saturday, April 13th 1 PM - 3:30 PM Choosing the right monologue is crucial in showcasing your strengths and abilities as an actor, while also providing a casting team insight to your personality. Monologues are often the most complicated and frustrating obstacle for actors. This workshop aims to relieve some of the stress! Joseph Walsh Instructor Each participant should bring two chosen monologues they are familiar with. Actors will examine their monologues and be coached by the instructor to be aware of body, breath, and text work in order to create an emotional truth. Spring Stage 2019 Theme: Pinocchio – An Adventure at the Puppet Show There’s just no telling what kind of mischief Pinocchio will get into! This adaptation of the classic tale features a festive musical theatre score that’s just right for developing the vocal skills of young performers. 20

Beauty and the Beast. During his time in Ireland, he directed critically acclaimed productions of Hairspray and Singin’ in the Rain. In London’s West End he served as Resident Director on When Harry Met Sally (starring Molly Ringwald and Michael Landes). Joseph spent three seasons as the Touring Director for White Horse Theatre, where his work was seen across Europe and Japan.
