7 CONNECTING 2022 Annual Meeting of the full Session and Diaconate - May 19, 2022 contributed by Jim Boyd and Rev. Susan Carter Wiggins All incoming leadership, as well as those who are completing their three-year terms of service and those who are carrying on in their terms of service, along with all called and installed clergy were present. We give thanks to all those who’ve completed their term of service. Most especially because of their service in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic, which provided many challenges, as well as opportunities to pivot, grow, and change. These changes will benefit us all way beyond these difficult years. The prophet Isaiah reminds us that God is always doing something new in and through us, and this has never been more true as we’ve faced each new challenge together. “I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:19) As we pray for our congregation and our church, let’s shout out to the new officers who presented their faith statements on Thursday evening, May 17 and committed to serve as leaders in the coming years. Composing our faith statements is both a taxing and rewarding experience—and only the beginning of a great three-year leadership experience. Let’s remember these fine folks in our prayers and take a minute to say “thank you” as we bump into them. Elders in the Class of 2025--Anthony Duke, Bill Fesmire, Jeff Halter, Tricia Harris, Meredith Mattila, Margaret Owens, Kim Sauer, Alta Simpson, and Gracey Owens. Deacons in the Class of 2025--Chad Coursey, Rob Draughon, Jay Galyean, Deranda Lester, Lanny Oakes, Paula Stack Hurt, and Grace Jones. While we celebrate the new officers, let’s not forget those who have served, and will continue to lead in support and advisory roles as they continue to bolster the congregation. Retiring elders are Diane Callahan Edens, Dick Goughnour, Mary K. Grantham, Susan Hormberg, Alex Ivy, Drayton Mayers, Amy Phillips, and Helen Warren. Deacons who served in the class of 2022 are Patti Bradford, Charles Fahrenkopf, Pam Graddy, Sherrie Horner, Kelly Phillips, and Gary Veasey. Thank you for this quiet commitment to GPC and the greater church; please pray that God’s grace and peace abide with each as we move into the next year.
