office@welfarecall.comoffice@welfarecall.com THE WEEKLY BULLETIN MOON HALL SCHOOL, REIGATE 26th March 2021 Dear Parents and families of Moon Hall Reigate The last full week done! Next week we have three days and then we have made it to the Easter holidays. It does feel in many ways an accomplishment for all staff and pupils, perhaps even for you parents too. The Easter holidays offer promise of COVID restrictions being relaxed a little and I have everything crossed for some sunshine in order to get my three boys outdoors in the fresh air. As much as I am looking forward to restrictions loosening a little, it also brings back the pandemonium of Saturday mornings when I have three boys to try and navigate normally to three different football matches with only myself and the husband. I will quietly miss my more relaxed and slower paced weekends in some ways. Lots has been happening this week at school. The new playground equipment has been fitted and all installed. We have a basket swing and also a trail for the pupils to play on. This will be fully opened and ready to use on Monday and I know the pupils are really keen to have something else to use at breaktimes. Thank you once more to the efforts of the FOMHSR for their fundraising and your sponsorship too which together with school funds has enabled us to get this in place. This week I was invited to attend the APPG (All Part Parliamentary Group) for Dyspraxia. This meeting took place virtually, however usually they take place at the House of Commons. I was enjoying listening to the speakers and their research when suddenly Tom Hunt MP, asked me to comment on Moon Hall's experience of lockdown for our dyspraxic pupils. Quickly, I had to gather my thoughts and calm my nerves. I think it went ok. I haven't shared openly, until now, the support that I provide to Tom, but as he mentioned it himself in the meeting, I feel it may be ok to do this now. Tom is on the Education Select committee, he is dyslexic, dyspraxic and dyscalculic or "all the D's" as he refers to himself. Tom will regularly call me prior to his Education select committee meetings, or before he asks questions in Parliament. I am fully supportive and appreciative of Tom and his intentions to improve things for SEN pupils. Tom and my thoughts are very aligned on the need for change for SEN pupils. SEN pupils, who don't have the benefit of attending a school like Moon Hall, can be hugely disadvantaged in many areas when compared to peers, it is essential that Tom does challenge the Government and the Education Secretary on these issues to ensure that we do see change nationally for all SEN pupils. I look forward to continuing to support Tom and also attending the next APPG for Dyspraxia.
office@welfarecall.comoffice@welfarecall.com THE WEEKLY BULLETIN MOON HALL SCHOOL, REIGATE 26th March 2021 Our pupils interviewed Grant Harold, The Royal Butler on Tuesday. This was a really fun interview and gave us opportunity to ask Grant questions about his experience of working as a Butler for the Royal family. He shared some funny stories and also after the call with the pupils Grant and I had a little chat where he shared some really juicy gossip which of course I couldn't possibly share publicly. It was fun to take part in this and we are really thankful to Grant for giving up his time to allow these pupils to ask him questions. We had a few tech issues, mainly with me, but the pupils were superb! It was my fault for boasting how good our technology was before we started- I jinxed it! Here is the link to the full interview- enjoy! (346) Grant Harold Interview - YouTube Monday 29th March I will be taking part in the D.E.A.R (Drop Everything And Read) Dyslexia festival. I will be talking about what we do here at Moon Hall with regards to reading. There are guest speakers on throughout the day and I'm not expecting parents to join in to hear what we do at Moon Hall, as hopefully you will know, however you may be interested in the other speakers that day. Here is the link to the website D.E.A.R For Dyslexia Learning Festival - UK | DEAR For Dyslexia Next week is normal lessons Monday and Tuesday. Mainly normal lessons Wednesday. Wednesday has our Easter celebrations starting with celebration Assembly, and throughout the day we have lots of Easter fun planned. Please encourage your child to take part in the competitions, I have lots of chocolate to give away and Amazon voucher prizes. I wish you all a wonderful weekend Kindest wishes Michelle Catterson D.E.A.R. for dyslexia On Monday, 29th March we are celebrating Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R. for dyslexia). There are so many ways for students to develop a love of reading both at home and at school. Pupils will be focusing on reading-related activities during English lessons. Please continue to join us in encouraging your children to enjoy reading, whether they’re listening to an audiobook or spending five minutes sharing a story with you before bedtime. It is so beneficial for young people to be able to switch off for a few moments and listen to or look through a book.

I started this in the first lockdown, which I did outdoors. I located the wood in the grounds around our farmland and it is very heavy! I have studied Polynesian tiki figures and I love working on creating my own” Year 10 These photos show some of the year 10 students who had finished their ESB helping year 8 students with their assessments. It was so lovely to see them being so supportive to the younger students. We even had the brothers Power working together. Well done Year 10 and a massive thank you.

office@welfarecall.comoffice@welfarecall.com THE WEEKLY BULLETIN MOON HALL SCHOOL, REIGATE 26th March 2021 FOMHSR Over the Easter holidays we would love to keep our community healthy and in touch. So we have come up with another ‘keep moving’ challenge. How many kilometres can you move in three weeks? Each kilometre is an egg, how many eggs will you collect in your basket? How you display your tally of eggs is up to you. As an added incentive to get out and about over the Easter break, we have put a list together of things you can spot. You can take photos and share with your WhatsApp groups, or post in the Moon Hall Facebook page to inspire others. Please see attached leaflet. Wishing you all a happy and healthy Easter Rachel Glasgow FOMHSR Lateral Flow Testing at home throughout the Easter holidays for schools Following the success of the asymptomatic testing programme on the return to school, the Government has advised that it is vital to continue testing at home throughout the Easter holidays and into the summer term and all consenting pupils have been supplied with sufficient tests to allow testing every Sunday and Wednesday evening throughout the holiday period. Please continue to register and record the results online via the Government website and also please remember to complete the form that will be sent via Parentmail at regular intervals so that we are able to maintain our own records. Many thanks Tracy Caveney Bursar School Travel Survey Safer Travel Team at Surrey County Council have kindly asked if parents would be so kind to complete the survey in the link below, their goal for this research is to gain an understanding of pupils' different types of travel, how frequent they use each type and what can be done to support pupils in travelling to school more actively in the future. https://www.surreysays.co.uk/iai/41377978
