The Village of Gilberts is formally organized under the Trustee-Village form of government and combines the strong political leadership of the elected officials (in the form of 2022 the Village Board) with the professional experience of appointed local government administrator. The Board consists of a President January and six Trustees elected at large to serve overlapping four-year terms. The President appoints the Village Administrator to carry out the Board’s directives, and oversees the delivery of public services. The Village Administrator also supervises the daily operations of the Village and all of its departments. The Village Board meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Hall. At Village Hall, the Village Staff is available to address residents’ concerns and provide assistance. The Village Clerk serves as the Freedom of Information Act Officer. The Village Administrator directs the Village's planning, community development and economic development initiatives, as well as provides leadership and direction for long-term development of the Village.

Village Parks 2022 February Memorial Park is located at 355 Tyrrell Road Town Center Park is located at 301 (in between Big Timber Rd and Route 72 just Columbia Lane, at the intersection of north of I-90). This park offers the following Tyrrell Road and Columbia Lane. This amenities: a baseball diamond, walking trail, park features a playground, splash pad, a playground, fishing pond, and a picnic soccer field, baseball diamond and open pavilion. space. Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle Right 2022 March In the Village of Gilberts, we are committed to a sustainable future and to improving the social, economic and environmental well being of the community. Our goal is to create cleaner neighborhoods in which we live by working together with our neighbors to improve our local environmental quality. You can make a difference by recycling right and taking care while placing items in your recycling cart! (See poster at left). The Kane County Recycles webpage (below left) has resources for things you can’t recycle at the curb but for which there are recycling programs in the community, including: • Household Hazardous Waste Home Collection Program • Latex Paint can be recycled at Ace Hardware stores (cost) • Fluorescent Tubes can be recycled at Geneva Ace Hardware • Pharmaceutical/ Medication drop-offs • Battery drop-offs Kane County Recycling Centers are open year-round, 5-6 days a week, for recycling electronics, clothing, shoes, textiles, books, scrap metal and more. There are three locations: Aurora, Batavia, and West Dundee. There is a cost for TVs and monitors, but all other items are free to drop off. There are several free residential document shredding events scheduled for 2022 in St. Charles. Spring has Sprung! Annual Easter Egg Hunt 2022 The spring brings the Easter Bunny for some fun on the lawn as kids participate in the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Hop on over to the April Gilberts Eagles Club at 325 Raymond Street to enjoy a delicious breakfast with the Easter Bunny. After breakfast, stick around for the Village of Gilberts Annual Easter Egg Hunt! Yard Waste & Garbage Collection Here are some important things to remember - • This year, yard waste is collected from April 7 to November 26 • Place yard waste in 30-gallon biodegradable brown paper bags or in open 30- gallon garbage cans. • Each bunch of bundled tree branches cannot be longer than 4 feet and no larger in diameter than a 30-gallon garbage can. • Maximum branch diameter is 4 inches for individual branches. • All bundles and bags must not exceed 40 pounds. • Have cans out by 7:00 a.m. and place cans 4 feet apart. • Bulk items are accepted: couches, tables, beds, bundled carpets. Bulk items do not need to be tagged prior to pick-up. • Electronics are not allowed to be put in trash. Items such as televisions, computers and computer monitors need to be taken to an electronics recycling facility.
Trash or yard waste should be placed curbside by 7 a.m. April 2022 on pick up day. Stickers are not required for bulk items. Yard waste must be in a 30-gallon biodegradable brown paper bag or in an open 30-gallon garbage can. Building Safety The Village of Gilberts encourages all residents to take some time to perform an annual home safety check to keep your family safe. Some of these items may include: 2022 o Place a working smoke alarm on every floor and check batteries every six months May o Clear away dead or weak tree branches that may break off and damage your house in high winds o Clear rain gutters of dead limbs, needles, and other debris o Check all swings, slides, playhouses and other structures for sharp objects, rusty metal pieces, breaks or weakened support pieces o Clean dryer lint filter and venting system o Have chimney and furnace cleaned and inspected o Open the circuit breaker panel and look for scorch marks around breakers or fuses o Examine porches and decks for sagging ceilings, loose rails or boards, and damaged steps Planning a home improvement project? Most building projects require a permit to ensure that the work performed adheres to the Village and International Codes. Some of our most common building projects that require a permit are for pools, decks, and fences. 2022 Water & Wastewater Departments The Village of Gilberts places a strong emphasis on educating our residents about the quality of our drinking water. Just as important, the Village of Gilberts makes the necessary investments to maintain and upgrade its facilities so we can deliver quality water directly to your tap 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. As regulations and drinking water standards change, it is our ongoing commitment to incorporate these July changes in our water system in a prompt and cost-effective manner. To comply with state and US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulation, the Village issues a report annually describing the quality of your drinking water. Please visit the Village website at www.villageofgilberts.com for the most up to date water quality report. How to Pay Utility Bills For your convenience, the Village of Gilberts offers several ways to pay your utility bill: • Pay online as a one-time payment with a credit or debit card at www.villageofgilberts.com • Sign up for auto-pay with a checking account at www.villageofgilberts.com • Drop off payments in our 24-hour locked drop box located in the parking lot of Village Hall at 87 Galligan Road (picture on left) • Pay in person at the Utility Billing Drop Box located at Department at 73 Industrial Drive or 87 Galligan Road at Village Hall with cash, check, or with a debit or credit card.

2022 Annual Fishing Derby Every year, we close out the August summer season with our Annual Fishing Derby! At Memorial Park, four age groups participate in catching the biggest fish. This year’s Fishing Derby will take place on Saturday, August 6th at 8 a.m. keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for more details.

Gilberts Police Department 2022 September Contact Information 86 Railroad St. Gilberts, IL. 60136 Non-Emergency Number (630) 232-8400 Police Chief Todd Block The Gilberts Police Department serves and protects the community at large. In addition, the Police Department offers many other programs to promote public safety and public awareness. The following is a list of some of the services offered by the department. Social Programs – The Gilberts Police Department is a Safe Haven providing shelter for infants in a time of need. In addition, the Gilberts Police Department performs Child Safety Seat inspections by appointment. Gun Locks – The Gilberts Police Department provides free gun locks to all residents requesting assistant in securing their firearms. House Watch Program – This program is available to all Gilberts homeowners who would like their house watched while they are away. Residents need to contact the department and complete the appropriate form.
New businesses are required by Village Code to September 2022 register with the Village within (60) days of commencing business. Existing businesses must renew their license annually. 2022 Autumn Activities Fall Bonfire October Every October, the Village of Gilberts celebrates the fall season with a giant bonfire at Memorial Park. This event is for the whole family and features hayrides, crafts, games, music, apple cider, and more! Halloween House Decorating Competition Last year, we started a new tradition of an annual Halloween House Decorating competition. 49 Greenbriar was our first winner! The “Greenbriar Cemetery” is a must-see house in Gilberts and we are so proud of not only these residents, but all of our residents who put so much hard work into decorating their homes this year.

2022 YMCA November The Taylor Family YMCA has offered programs and services in Gilberts since 2004 providing children, families, and individuals the opportunity to strengthen their spirit, Taylor Family Branch YMCA mind, and body. We continue to work hard each day to fulfill our commitment to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. 50 N. November 2022 Please do not rake leaves into the streets. Too many leaves in our streets can cause flooding around sewers and catch basins. Place leaves in yard waste bags or containers. Public Works Department Fun Facts 2022 • The Village of Gilberts has a total of 9 Full-Time Public Works Employees including both the Streets and Utilities Division. December • The Village maintains and plows around 28 centerline miles of roadway. We also maintain a similar mileage in sanitary, water and storm sewer lines for a total of almost 90 miles of infrastructure that most people never see! • The Village orders annually around 900 tons of road salt to keep the roads snow and ice free during the winter months. • The Village has around 8,300 residents and the average resident produces 4.51 pounds of garbage per person per day. Which means Gilbert’s residents on average are producing around 37,000 pounds of garbage per day. • The Village has around 184 street lights throughout the entire community! To report pot holes, missing or down street signs, or street light outages please contact the Public Works Department Parking on Village streets after a two-inch snowfall is a violation of the Village Code and may be subject to a ticket. Please remove the vehicles after two-inches of snow or more and do not place them back on the street until snow removal activities by Public Works have been completed. Doing this simple measure will assist the Public Works Department in keeping the roads safe for all travelers over the course of the winter season.
December 2022 Broken holiday lights? You can recycle them in the designated bin in the Village Hall parking lot until February 1, 2022.
