                                 A Mental Health Moment
The language you use has a direct and deep impact on people around you. You can
reduce stigma by: using person-first language, for example say 'person who uses
drugs' instead of 'drug user'; using neutral, medically accurate words when
describing drug use; avoiding slang such as 'addict' and 'junkie'; using language
that shows care and concern, rather than judgement; speaking up when you hear
someone being treated or talked to in a disrespectful way; and using language that
acknowledges and promotes the fact that recovery from addiction is possible, and
looks different for everyone. (Source: Government of Canada)

LENTEN LUNCHES RETURN TO ST. MARK’S!
Food security exists when all people at all times have physical and economic access to adequate
amounts of nutritious, safe and culturally-appropriate food to maintain a healthy and active life. One
of the things highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic is how vulnerable Newfoundland and Labrador is
to food insecurity. Our geographical location, a significant reliance on food importation, and the
crippling cost of groceries all make equal access to food very difficult. This is a challenge facing all of
us in society. Come and learn about what food security/insecurity is, who is most adversely affected,
and what we can do as community members and groups to help ensure all people have access to
nutritious food. Our sessions will take place on Thursdays from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.:
March 16: The Data of Food Security in NL (Dr. Valerie Tarasuk, PROOF Food Insecurity Policy
Research);
March 23: Income Insecurity is Food Insecurity (Father Mark Nichols);
March 30: A conversation on community partnerships to address food insecurity.
We ask that you bring your own lunch, but tea/coffee and treats will be provided!

Out in Faith presents: Exploring Queer Spirituality. 7 p.m. Thursday, March 23rd at the Lantern,
35 Barnes Road. For more information, please email OutInFaithNL@gmail.com.

THE GATHERING OF GOD’S PEOPLE

OPENING HYMN – 51 This is the day Irish

This is the day the Lord hath made, 3. Hosanna to the anointed King,
He calls the hours his own; To David’s holy Son!
Let heaven rejoice, let earth be glad, Help us, O Lord, descend and bring
And praise surround the throne. Salvation from thy throne.

2. Today he rose and left the dead, 4. Hosanna in the highest strains
And Satan’s empire fell;                    The Church on earth can raise;
Today the saints his triumph spread, The highest heavens in which he reigns
And all his wonders tell. Shall give him nobler praise.

THE GREETING
Celebrant The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.
People And with your spirit.
Celebrant There is one body and one Spirit,
People    There is one hope in God’s call to us;
Celebrant One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
People One God and Father of all.

THE COLLECT OF THE DAY
Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ gives the water of eternal life, may we always thirst for you,
the spring of life and source of goodness; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

PROCLAIMING AND RECEIVING THE WORD
Exodus 17:1-17 Janice Evans

Psalm 95
1. Come, let us sing to the Lord; * let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation.
2. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving *
and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.
3. For the Lord is a great God, * and a great king above all gods.
4. In his hand are the caverns of the earth, * and the heights of the hills are his also.
5. The sea is his, for he made it, * and his hands have molded the dry land.
6. Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, * and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
7. For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. *
Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!
8. Harden not your hearts, as your forebears did in the wilderness, *
at Meribah, and on that day at Massah, when they tempted me.
9. They put me to the test, * though they had seen my works.
10. Forty years long I detested that generation and said, *
“This people are wayward in their hearts; they do not know my ways.”
11. So I swore in my wrath, * “They shall not enter into my rest.”

Romans 5:1-11 Hazel Pritchett Harris

GRADUAL HYMN – 568 BE THOU MY VISION Slane

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;                  3. Be thou my battle-shield, sword for the fight;
Naught be all else to me, save that thou art, Be thou my dignity, thou my delight,
Thou my best thought, by day or by night, Thou my soul’s shelter, thou my high tower:
Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light. Raise thou me heavenward,
                                                                         O Power of my power.

2. Be thou my wisdom, thou my true Word; 4. Riches I heed not, nor the world’s empty praise,
I ever with thee, thou with me, Lord;                   Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
Thou my great Father, I thy true son; Thou and thou only, first in my heart,
Thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one. High King of heaven, my treasure thou art.

                              5. High King of heaven, after victory won,
                              May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

The Baptism

N, I baptise you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

I sign you with the cross, and mark you as one of Christ’s own for ever.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon these your
servants the forgiveness of sin, and have raised them to the new life of grace. Sustain them, O Lord,
in your Holy Spirit. Give them an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to persevere,
a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works. Amen.

The Giving of Light
Receive the light of Christ, to show that you have passed from darkness to light.

People Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify
    your Father in heaven.
Celebrant Let us welcome the newly baptized.
People We receive you into the household of God. Confess the faith of Christ crucified,
proclaim his resurrection, and share with us in his eternal priesthood.
(We now move back to our pews and continue...)

PENITENCE
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son Jesus Christ, to save us from our sins, to intercede
for us in heaven, and to bring us to eternal life.
Let us then confess our sins in penitence and faith, firmly resolved to keep God’s commandments and
to live in love and peace: Silence

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we have sinned in thought and word and deed, and in what
we have left undone. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son, Jesus
Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may walk in newness of life to the glory of your
name. Amen.

Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy on you, pardon and deliver you from all
your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life, through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE PRAYER OF HUMBLE ACCESS
We do not presume to come to this your table, merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness
but in your manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs
under your table. But you are the same Lord, whose nature is always to have mercy. Grant us,
therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his
blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his
most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him and he in us. Amen.

THE PEACE
Being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
The peace of the Lord be always with you. Romans 5: 1,2
And also with you.

CELEBRATING AT THE LORD’S TABLE

OFFERTORY HYMN – In Christ alone In Christ alone

In Christ alone my hope is found, 3. There in the ground His body lay,
He is my light, my strength, my song; Light of the world by darkness slain:
This Cornerstone, this solid Ground, Then bursting forth in glorious day
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. Up from the grave He rose again!
What heights of love, what depths of peace, And as He stands in victory
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease! Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
My Comforter, my All in All, For I am His and He is mine –
Here in the love of Christ I stand. Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

2. In Christ alone! – who took on flesh, 4. No guilt in life, no fear in death,
Fullness of God in helpless babe.                  This is the power of Christ in me;
This gift of love and righteousness, From life’s first cry to final breath,
Scorned by the ones He came to save: Jesus commands my destiny.
Till on that cross as Jesus died, No power of hell, no scheme of man,
The wrath of God was satisfied – Can ever pluck me from His hand:
For every sin on Him was laid; Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the death of Christ I live. Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.

AT THE PREPARATION OF THE TABLE
Wise and gracious God, you spread a table before us; nourish your people with the word of life,
and the bread of heaven. Amen.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
The Lord is here. His Spirit is with us.
Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.
All glory and honour, thanks and praise be given to you at all times and in all places, Lord, holy
Father, true and living God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. For he is your eternal Word through
whom you have created all things from the beginning and formed us in your own image.

In your great love you gave him to be made man for us and to share our common life. He was
tempted in every way as we are, yet he did not sin; and he gives us strength to control our
desires, and to walk in his way of love. In obedience to your will your Son our Saviour offered
himself as a perfect sacrifice, and died on the cross for our redemption. Through him you have
freed us from the slavery of sin and reconciled us to yourself, our God and Father.
He is our great high priest whom you raised from death and exalted to your right hand on high
where he ever lives to intercede for us. Through him you have sent upon us your holy and life-
giving Spirit and made us a royal priesthood called to serve you for ever.

Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we proclaim your
great and glorious name, for ever praising you and singing:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
   Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
   Hosanna in the highest.

Merciful Father, we thank you for these gifts of your creation, this bread and this wine, and we
pray that we who eat and drink them in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit in obedience to our
Saviour Christ in remembrance of his death and passion may be partakers of his body and his
blood, who on the night he was betrayed took bread; and when he had given you thanks he
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take, eat. This is my body which is given for you;
Do this in remembrance of me.
After supper, he took the cup, and again giving you thanks he gave it to his disciples, saying,
Drink from this, all of you. This is my blood of the new covenant which is shed for you and for
many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.
Father, with this bread and this cup, we do as our Saviour has commanded: we celebrate the
redemption he has won for us; we proclaim his perfect sacrifice, made once for all upon the
cross, his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension; and we look for his coming to fulfil all
things according to your will.
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
Renew us by your Holy Spirit, unite us in the body of your Son, and bring us with all your
people into the joy of your eternal kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, with whom and in
whom, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we worship you, Father almighty, in songs of never-
ending praise:
Blessing and honour and glory and power are yours for ever and ever. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
As our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are bold to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD
The bread which we break is a sharing in the body of Christ.
We being many are one body, for we all share in the one bread.

THE COMMUNION
The gifts of God for the people of God.
Jesus Christ is holy, Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
AGNUS DEI
Jesus, Lamb of God, have mercy on us.
Jesus, bearer of our sins, have mercy on us,
Jesus, Redeemer of the world, give us your peace.

ANTHEM – AN IRISH BLESSING BOB CHILCOTT

THE GREAT SILENCE
When all have received the communion, the presiding minister, other ministers and people keep
                                    silence for reflection.

GOING OUT AS GOD’S PEOPLE
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Merciful God, you have called us to your table and fed us with the bread of life. Draw us and all
people to your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Almighty God,
we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the body and blood of your Son Jesus
Christ. Through him we offer you our souls and bodies to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the
power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen.

THE BLESSING
Christ give you grace to grow in holiness, to deny yourselves, and to take up your cross and follow
him: and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be among you and
remain with you always. Amen.

CLOSING HYMN – 751 I cannot tell Londonderry Air

I cannot tell why he, whom angels worship,
Should set his love upon the sons of men,
Or why, as Shepherd, he should seek the wanderers,
To bring them back, they know not how or when.
But this I know, that he was born of Mary,
When Bethlehem’s manger was his only home,
And that he lived at Nazareth and laboured,
And so the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is come.

2. I cannot tell how silently he suffered,
As with his peace he graced this place of tears,
Or how his heart upon the Cross was broken,
The crown of pain to three and thirty years.
But this I know, he heals the broken-hearted,
Ans stays our sin, and calms our lurking fear,
And lifts the burden from the heavy laden,
For yet the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is here,
3. I cannot tell how he will win the nations,
How he will claim his earthly heritage,
How satisfy the needs and aspirations
Of East and West, of sinner and of sage.
But this I know, all flesh shall see his glory,
And he shall reap the harvest he has sown,
And some glad day his sun shall shine in splendour
When he the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is known.

4. I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship,
When, at his bidding, every storm is stilled,
Or who can say how great the jubilation
When all the hearts of men with love are filled.
But this I know, the skies will thrill with rapture,
And myriad, myriad human voices sing,
And earth to heaven, and heaven to earth, will answer,
At last the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is King!
