Hornsby District Cricket Club “Win without boast, Lose without excuse” Articles by acclaimed journalist “Garry Newton” EXCLUSIVE CRICKET NEWS acclaimed journalist Hornsby Cricket - Australian Legends! 3x Junior & 2x Senior teams made it to the Grand Finals! After winning the semi-final by 6 runs, our U14 Green team (my son included) faced off against Castle Hill who bat first with 6/139 of 49 overs. Then it rained! We started & it rained again and then again! In the end we had 24 overs to score 130 runs and, they did it! Unbelievable effort guys! HORNSBY U14 GREEN CHAMPIONS: Harrison O'Neill, Toby Newton, Aaditya Pankaj Davey, Moses Balbi, Joshua Hegarty, Charlie Thompson, Declan Lees, Sean Broady, Jordan Atwood, Harshil Vyas, Shaurya Vajhula James Fitzgerald, Coach: Tim Thompson Manager: Stephen Cattle A fantastic game between our U15/16’s team & West Pennant Hills Orange played on a turf wicket at Parklands Oval. Hornsby batted first finishing with 141 runs. The Hornsby bowlers fort hard, Parth taking 3 wickets. The entire team pulled together in the field taking 5x catches & WPHO all out 10/135. Hornsby wins!!!! It was a low scoring game due to weather and unfortunately the U12 Greens could not get the runs. Fantastic effort making the final guys! Their beer is in round 14 and their semi-final opponents, Berowra the week previous. Clinging to 4th unpasteurised and unfiltered providing spot they had the unenviable task of trying to take down a Berowra side who hadn’t a full real flavour. Cameron Hay and Jack O’Brien gave the C2’s a great start putting on an opening partnership of 49 before Cameron fell to a sharp catch. With 12 minutes left in the day the boys sprinted in to position and began the innings with a maiden from Aaron Kerr. Jackson Thompson opened from the other end and trapped their opening batsman plumb LBW with the umpire raising his finger to a “not too happy” batsmen. Another maiden from both openers before the captain asked the umpire “time for one more ump”? “If you’re quick”, came the reply. The C2 boys darted into position and began the 5 th over with Aaron delivering a beautiful deliver that created doubt for the batsmen and another reason for a raised finger as the LBW appeal was once again upheld. End of play. Mount Colah 2 - 0 Week 2 – rain stopped play from even starting and after 3 hours the Mount Colah captain finally agreed to call an end to it.
