All eyes on the Bundesliga. | Why the restart of the Bundesliga season was of a global significance The pandemic caused sudden and significant changes in the lives of people around the globe. People have been craving for success stories from the fight against the virus and steps toward normalcy. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and the German Bundesliga is one of the most respected and financially strong leagues. The average Bundesliga attendance in 2019/20 was more than 40,000 per match. That was over 2,000 more than the Premier League and almost twice as many people as in the Ligue 1 in France. Of all the sports leagues in the world, only the NFL has a higher stadium attendance. The global network of the DFL comprises 60 Media partners and 50 leagues, and a content network with hubs in 30 countries. In over 200 countries the matches of the Bundesliga are covered live. The DFL has been among the top innovators and role models in the sports industry, long before the corona virus pandemic. The organisation was a founding member of the international trade fair, SportsInnovation, which took place for the first time in 2018 and brought together 923 sports innova- tion leaders from 21 countries.
