Match Report: Daventry Town Res 0-1 Yaxley Res Yaxley Reserves made it five games without defeat and a Fabulous February after a close fought 1-0 win away to a strong and physical Daventry side. The Cuckoos started slowly, and their normal fast passing game was nullified by the surface and the oppositions high press. However, it was Yaxley that spurned the first big chance of the game on 22 minutes. Adem Isenovic drove into the penalty area and was upended by a Daventry defender. An easy decision for the excellent official Phoebe Horner who awarded the away side a spot kick. Isenovic picked himself up and fired in a great strike, only to see the opposition stopper pull off an equally great save. That seemed to encourage the home side and they were the better side going into the interval, with Yaxley stopper Max Rigby pulling off at least 3 outstanding saves to keep it all even at the break. HT 0-0 The gaffer Simon Roberts must have delivered a firm and honest view of the first period. The lack of tenacity and communication was absent. Roberts rang in the changes. Rigby coming off for Whiteman, Crane on for Ford and Younus on for Isenovic. Within 1 minute of the restart, it was substitute Danyaal Younus who latched on to a Harvey Henderson ball and his shot rattled the bar and bounced on the goal line before Younus himself bravely headed it home on the rebound, receiving a kick to the head from the despairing keeper for his troubles. 0-1 Any celebration from the team was muted as Younus was down on the goal line dazed and bleeding and having medical treatment. Fortunately, the magic Daventry water and a wipe down of blood enabled the goal scorer to resume playing after a five minute delay. With Younus able to count the gaffers 3 fingers it was back to the action and Yaxley suddenly started to play with a renewed vigour and started to pass the ball as a team and create numerous openings which were narrowly missed at the final ball stage. Daventry were becoming desperate and sent on the big guns and continued their long ball tactic, a tactic which the Henderson twins and Stewart coped with impressively. Yaxley had gone to a 3-5-2 and the impressive Harvey Robertson was close on a couple of occasions as wing back and could easily have been named MOTM at the final whistle. With the game over and the three points secured. The Cuckoos travelled back home with smiles and laughter. Max Rigby our stopper was awarded man of the match for his superb first half display and a battered and bloodied Younus a very close second for his brave and dominating second half midfield display, finished off with that all important winning goal. Full Time: 0-1 Special thanks to Daventry FC for the hospitality. Thank you also to our supporters, much appreciated. By Tahir Younus 3

Taking over a good squad from Danny, thinking 2 or three additions would be good, then losing 10 players for various reasons, (Money, Motivation or maybe it was because of Me). Anyway, despite the depleted squad, news of me getting back into football after a nine week sabbatical led to lots of well wishes, and Players wanting to re-join me, with others asking for a trial. Really nice to get so many texts, calls and social media messages. Soon I had 12 new players to the squad. Officially, I had been approached by the players to Dual register, however the FA still sadly charged us for illegal registrations. Great start to the club and good first impressions to the Chairman. You live and learn. Seven games on and two defeats, two draws and three wins. Currently five games undefeated and we sit 12th in the table. The players have taken (some reluctantly) to the structure, discipline and fines I have introduced, but the training sessions and games are getting better every week, so full credit to the lads for that. Off the pitch, I can’t thank the Yaxley FC volunteers, Staff and Committee for the unanimous welcome and for really backing me and my vision fully. I’m also grateful for the help of some great parents in Colin, Tahir, Susan and of course my assistant Dave. And truly blessed to have Kelly and my daughter Livvi making a HUGE difference to the running of the teams Post match hospitality. Another thank-you mention goes to Daniel Tortoise who kindly puts the Match Day programme together for us. Final word of thanks goes to the players…. Thanks for all your effort and commitment lads, it means a lot. Hopefully we’ll have much more to come. However, the “TikTok” brigade among you need to re-think your choice of subject, as it really is quite embarrassing. Get oooot, Get oooot. GET OOOOOOT Cheers, Robbo. 10

History of Yaxley FC (The Cuckoos) The club was formed in 1900 with the forerunner of today’s club, Yaxley Rovers, being members of the first Peterborough League campaign contested during the 1902-03 season. History up until the Second World War is not well documented and the first instance of a post-war championship came about in 1950-51 when the club won the Peterborough League Division Two. Relegation was just around the corner though, and it was back in Division Three by the end of the 1950s. The Club has always played either in or on the fringes of the highest levels of local leagues which, over the years have been sponsored and known by many names such as Eastern Counties, Jewson, and Peterborough League. The Cuckoo’s finished as runners-up three seasons in a row, the last of these being enough to see the club promoted to the Premier Division of the Peterborough League. The club’s first taste of Premier Division football came at the start of the 1975-76 season and once again they finished runners-up. The following season they went one better and won the Premier Division title. The 1983-84 season was a superb one with the first team winning the treble, the Peterborough Premier Division, the Peterborough Senior Cup and the Hunts Senior Cup, and the Reserves winning the Peterborough Division One Championship. The Cuckoos left the Peterborough League at the end of the 1987-88 season and made the step up to the Eastern League at the start of the following season. 1993-94 saw the purchase of the new ground and the facilities to step up to the United Counties League and the 1994-95 season was at that time, probably the most successful in its history. This was the debut season of the ill-fated West Anglian League (amalgamation of the Hunts & East Northants Leagues) and the first team won promotion to the United Counties League after winning the championship. The Reserves also won Division One of the same competition thus emulating the feat of 1984-85. During the close season floodlights were erected and a stand was put up at the Leading Drove ground. The following season saw the Division One championship come to Leading Drove. The 2002-03 season saw the Reserve and Youth teams win the lion’s share of league and cup silverware whilst Jim Watson took over the management of the First Team making a magnificent charge from the relegation zone of the United Counties League Premiership to finish seventh with 67 points – the club’s highest ever finishing position. The same season saw plans unveiled for new facilities that are part of a five-year objective to take the club into the Dr. Martens (or equivalent) league. Plans were also made to incorporate Yaxley Juniors and establish a new Ladies team to assist in creating a community orientated football club. The ’03-04, ‘04-05 and ‘05-06 seasons have undoubtedly been the clubs most successful ever with the First, Reserve, Youth, Ladies and Junior teams all bringing home trophies including at senior level, the prestigious Hinchingbrooke Cup and the UCL League Cup in May 2006. The club has maintained FA Charter Club status and was granted planning permission to redevelop the site, improving the facilities (e.g., new clubhouse and additional playing areas) to FA community standard. The project was severely delayed in 2005 resulting in significant commercial loses due to an access dispute halting the club’s entire development plan. The dispute was finally settled, and the project restarted in August ’06. Season 2008-09 saw the move to more temporary accommodation. The following three seasons proved to be some of the toughest in the club’s history as against the pundit’s opinions; Gary Clipston pulled survival from the jaws of relegation. 12
History of Yaxley FC (The Cuckoos) continued The 2012-13 season saw a total rebuild of the First team and players under the management of former Cuckoos player and Reserve Team manager Brett Whaley (assisted by Chris Lenton) and the reinstatement of the clubs Reserve Team acting as a bridge between our flourishing U18s and First Team. They finished mid-table and were joint winners (along with Royston Town) of The Hinchingbrooke Cup, the reserve team were runners up in the league and the league cup and the U18s were league champions and league cup winners (comprehensively beating AFC Rushden & Diamonds). All in all, not a bad season. 2013-14 saw the dismantling of the reserve side due to a lack of bodies to manage the team to an acceptable level and a brand new U18s team coming up from U16s football – a very tough season ahead. The First Team finished 6th in the league table—a highly commendable result but the FA and League Cup competitions were massively disappointing although we probably created a couple of new records in the process. 2014-15 saw the Cuckoos enjoy a very good season with an excellent FA Vase run and a 4th position in the league but one of the worst disciplinary records in the club’s history compounded by an embarrassing County Cup final display to round off a poor run-in to the end. The surprise of the season was the “shock” departure of Brett Whaley to Wisbech Town having only days before presented his plan and budget for the 2015-16 to the clubs committee which was approved. 2015-16 A new brush and a new era with new manager Ian Benjamin, an ex-professional with massive experience in semi-pro and non-league and a track record of promotion at Step 4 and 5. The biggest change for the club was the new 3G pitch that the club and the community have already benefited from enormously. The club would like to place on public record its deep and sincere appreciation to all those silent partners who have made our dream for growth and sustainability a reality. Ian Benjamin resigned at the beginning of April and the position was filled by the return from Wisbech Town of Brett Whaley. 2016-17 Brett Whaley showed his intent to take the Cuckoos to a higher level of football by strengthening the squad with some impressive experience whilst retaining the vast majority of last season’s players. 2015-16 was a disappointing one for the whole club but that was quickly forgotten. Brett brought back players and a great coaching team. In addition to an impressive 3rd place in the league we also won the UCL KO Cup beating Wisbech Town in a fiercely contested battle. 2017-18 saw our new Chairman Malcolm Clements officially set the clubs target for promotion and building on the success of last season, started what we all hoped was the next forward step for the Cuckoos. Our local attendances began to swell and also got behind our reformed Reserves. Assistant manager Andy Furnell took over the First Team management as Brett Whaley once again left the club. ‘Fern’s led the club again to the league cup final (runners up) but more importantly to the league title and PROMOTION to the Evo-Stik SOUTHERN LEAGUE. 2018-19 on the back of a tremendous season, the Cuckoos looked to sustain their rise to step 4 retaining the complete squad from the previous year whilst bolstering in a couple of areas. The Reserve was led by Lloyd Burton. 2018-20 At step 4 we entered the Southern League Midland Division and had two seasons, there although because of the covid outbreak the second season was not completed but at the time the club was just above mid-table. 2021-22 Another new chapter after the FA reshuffle the club was moved laterally to the Northern Premier League Midland Division. 13

Bourne Town: History Formed in 1883 Bourne Town played all its early football in the Peterborough League winning the Championship for the first time in 1933/1934 and then immediately following the second World War in successive seasons 1945/46/47. It was during this period after the war when the nickname “The Wakes” came into being. A competition organized by the club offered a prize of £5 for the most suitable nickname for the team. This success heralded improved status, with the club gaining admission to the United Counties League, but success eluded the Abbey lawn Club. Finishing in the top half of the table only twice and five times in the bottom two places over a nine year period resulted in a return to the Peterborough League for two seasons. Next stop was the Central Alliance League and in 1959/60 manager Sit Ottewell and his players brought the first non – league championship to the Abbey Lawn. The next season the Lincolnshire ‘B’ trophy was added to the silverware. In 1961 the club entered the newly re- formed Midland League but after only four years returned to the United Counties League for an unbroken 48 year period. The period between 1968 and 1972 brought unprecedented success under the managership of Terry Bates and chairmanship of Wilf Notley. Three United Counties Football League Championships, United Counties Football League Knock out Cup, Lincolnshire Senior Cup ‘A’, the RAFA Cup (twice),Scarber Cup (twice) as well as cup successes for the Reserves all came to the Abbey Lawn. Player Manager Mark Mitchell assembled a quality team to bring the United Counties Football League Championship back to the Abbey Lawn in 1990/91 completing the ‘double’ by winning the United Counties League Benevolent Cup. Runners up in the Evans Halshaw Floodlit Cup completed a remarkable season. In January 2004 Mr.Len Pick died at the age of 94.He was a lifelong supporter of Bourne Town Football Club and was President and Patron of the club. In his Will Len left a substantial amount of money to the club to be used to enhance the future of his beloved Wakes. It was not to be used for paying players and as a consequence the Management Committee decided to rebuild the Clubroom which had stood since 1969 and was beginning to look decidedly shabby. This was eventually finished in 2006 and is known as ‘The Len Pick Suite’ The building has no doubt improved the image of the club and it may be hired, together with the club bar, for private functions. 15
