CONTINUED// We looked after Doug's brothers pet talking dog. He lay in wait and sure enough he saw magpie for awhile we had it in a large cage in the dog coming up the driveway, so he fired the carport. But the childrens favourite was a shot above its head. Well he had forgotten Mickey the possum, when they ran it would about the magpie in the cage right next to always catch them. From the committee THE SATNAV// A poem by Pam Ayres I have a little Satnav, It lists the vehicles just in front, It sits there in my car And all those to the rear A Satnav is a driver's friend, And taking this into account, it tells you where you are. It specifies my gear. I have a little Satnav, I'm sure no other driver, I've had it all my life Has so helpful a device It's better than the normal ones, For when we leave and lock the car, My Satnav is my wife. It still gives its advice. It gives me full instructions, It fills me up with counselling, Especially how to drive Each journey's pretty fraught "It's sixty miles an hour", it says, So why don't I exchange it, "You're doing sixty five". And get a quieter sort? It tells me when to stop and start, Ah well, you see, it cleans the house, And when to use the brake Makes sure I'm properly fed And tells me that it's never ever, It washes all my shirts and things, Safe to overtake. And keeps me warm in bed! It tells me when a light is red, Despite all these advantages, And when it goes to green And my tendency to scoff, It seems to know instinctively, I only wish that now and then, Just when to intervene. I could turn the bugger off. 21
