News from The Atonement Catholic Academy -- Vol. 2021-2022 No.11, September 23, 2021

    THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
Daily Mass is a critical part of the day
at The Atonement Catholic Academy.
Our clergy, Father Lewis (Pastor) and
Father Jenkins (Parochial Vicar) offer
our daily school Mass and always
inspire and educate our scholars with
their homilies.

The Holy Mass is considered the source
and summit of our Catholic faith, and
as such--since the founding of The
Atonement Catholic Academy--it has
been a daily requirement for our
students and their teachers. There's no
better way to nourish the faith and
help us get to heaven!

Student Mass at The Atonement Catholic
                                            Academy.

                        A LETTER FROM MR. WATSON
Dear Academy Family,

Thank you to all who have generously given to the Academy’s 2021 Big Give
campaign. We’ve had an incredible response from current and former families,
as well as parishioners. At the time of writing we are at $15,470 with a few
hours still left. If you have not yet donated, you can still be a part of this effort
through 11:59 p.m. this evening at:
THE CRUSADER TIMES - The Atonement Academy
https://www.thebiggivesa.org/organizations/the-atonement-academy

With the amount already raised, we will be able to carry playground repairs
and secure outdoor science classroom resources, and it puts us well on our way
to replacing our aging fleet of computers in the tech room. Updated computers
will improve the Academy’s ability to administer STAR formative assessments,
conduct class research projects, and offer computer skills tutorials.

The future is looking bright for the Academy.

Let us continue to pray for one another. Our Lady of The Atonement—Pray For
Us!

Your servant,

Matthew David Watson
Head of School

CRUSADER SPORTS NOTES
Coach Alvarez:
THE CRUSADER TIMES - The Atonement Academy
Junior Varsity had a very busy week as they played a total of seven games, with
two regular season games and five games in a tournament. They ended up
splitting the regular season games as they defeated Our Lady of the Hills (2-0)
and lost to Legacy Christian (1-2). The tournament was in Austin which gave the
team a great experience playing against some tough Junior Varsity teams. We
won one game, tied two games, and lost two games. Sabella Berlanga and Perla
Robledo were team leaders in scoring for the week. Junior Varsity is now 6-6-2
for the season.

Varsity continued to have very solid play on their way to two victories over
Legacy Christian (3-0) and Our Lady of the Hills (3-0). Katie Cerda and Karolina
Garza lead the team in scoring for the week. Varsity is now 16-3 for the season.

Coach Rodriguez:
The Varsity Football Team hosted a game this past week against Winston
Academy. Our Crusaders have been training very hard. They played an
outstanding game against the Eagles, beating them 54-6. Crusaders Mason
Wendtland and Michael Cantu each scored three touchdowns. Also, Gabriel
Wendtland, Steven Wendtland, and Diego Salinas each scored a touchdown in
the game. On defense Mason, Steven, and Jose Henriquez each recorded
interceptions. The future looks great at Atonement Catholic, as these young
players will be playing together for a few more years. Go Crusaders!

WELCOME TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ZIHAN CUI
Admissions Director Yolanda Joiner and International Student Director Susana
Trevino went to the airport to welcome our newest international student, Zihan
"John" Cui, and they made him feel right at home. We now have eleven
international students at The Atonement Catholic Academy, including students
from China, Dubai, and Mexico. We have a student from Vietnam who is in the
process of being admitted as well.

ANNUAL FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE IS OCTOBER 9th!
This is always such a fun evening for our girls and their dads/guardians. You may
pay at the door, but you must RSVP to Mrs. Meyering at the email below so that
we will be able to adequately accommodate everyone!
FIRST GRADERS STUDY POINTILLISM
Our first grade students are studying great masterpieces such as those by French
artist Georges Seurat as they learn about pointillism and create their own
original art using the technique. The work of Ms. Maria Kennedy's class is
featured below, including work by Christopher, Anna, and Gianna.
IS YOUR CRUSADER AN UPPER SCHOOL JUNIOR?
The San Antonio Area Foundation has a NEW multimillion-dollar scholarship
program that is available to Bexar or Webb county students who are CURRENTLY
junior in high school. Applications will be accepted from September 27th
through November 30th, so do not delay! See the following flyer for details.
CRUSADER SCENES ON AND OFF CAMPUS
Ms. Fitzgerald's Kindergarten class proudly displays their Rainbow Fish work. She
adds, "In history, we are learning how to be a good citizen and Rainbow Fish
learns to share. Sharing made Rainbow Fish happy! I love teaching at a Catholic
school where we teach these principles daily. And the children’s rainbow fish
turned out so well."
This week, Ms. Chaney's Kindergarten is learning about our sense of taste by
taste-testing things that are sweet, salty, sour, and bitter! Dark chocolate was
NOT a fan favorite!
Our CYO soccer teams are having so much fun -- and winning, too! Above are the
youngest players capturing a win this past weekend (6-3). Below are the next
youngest group as a group and at play. (Thanks to Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Espinosa for
the photos!)
Cross country is once again hard at
                                        work! Featured here are Crusaders
                                        Madelyn Landry and Nathan Groh
(Thanks to Mrs. Landry for the taking the
photos, and to XC Coach Ms. Bridget
                                        Kennedy for sending them in!)

Don't forget to share your photos of your Crusaders!
We would love to see your sports photos, photos of your kids working on school
assignments or volunteering--as well as any photos you take on campus (before
school/after school/during school events).
