SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences units joined the group at all the school visits. • In Mosselbay one of the local cycling shops hosted a welcoming party and the local media attended the event. • Durbanville SAPS went out of their way to arrange a huge welcome for the team and each of them received a very special gift from Matla A Bana. • They team were joined by 21 day cyclists for the Cape Argus Cycle Race a day later, getting the public talking about the special No2Child Abuse message on their cycling shirts.
2016... WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE! 25 February - 6 March 2016 An extreme cycle tour with a difference. A tour unlike any other cycle tour in South Africa. A tour with extreme conditions, during which you will be meeting the people of South Africa and experience real South African hospitality, where you will be able to help the less fortunate, but most importantly where you will directly impact thousands of children on the way. A tour that will impact your life… 2016 Team Leader, Dirk Lourens 2016 Xtremeforkids There are many extreme cycle tours in South Africa, but none of them with such a huge and long impact of which the most important is the messages shared with the children during the school visits. During the last three years more than 30 000 children were reached with this tour. More importantly is that this project reaches into rural communities often overseen by awareness projects like these. In addition to this, the funds raised with this tour helps thousands of abused children every year. The theme for 2016 is once again “Getting Conversation Going” and 12 schools will be visited as part of the tour. The Awé theatre play will join the tour and all the kids will receive therapy guides. SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units and SAPS will supply support with regards to safety and reporting. Cycle the 2016 Xtreme Tour (R15 000 only) We have 6 places available for interested riders. The entry fee includes: • Accommodation from 25 February - 6 March 2016. • Three meals and snack packs a day. • Transfer from Johannesburg and Cape Town and back (per bus). • Entry to the Cape Town Cycle Tour (Charity Group Start Time). • Two Xtreme 2016 cycling shirts and exclusive gifts. We also ask all riders to participate in our fundraising challenge. Last year R100 000 was raised and one of our cyclists won a wonderful weekend away. The Xtreme tour group will be limited to a maximum of 13 people including: • Team Leader • 1 or 2 Celebrity rider(s) • 6 Cyclists (500 km, 1000 km or 1800km challenge) • 2 Back up Crew • 2 Actors The group will be joined in Cape Town by 31 other Xtreme Cyclist for the Cape Town Cycle Tour on 6 March 2016.

The following sponsorship options are available: Main Event Sponsorship (R50 000): Administrative costs in organizing the event, ground support crew, equipment rental and volunteer expenses. Matla A Bana was founded by ex-hostage, Monique Strydom, after the rapes of babies Leratho and Tsepang in 2002. The aim of MAB is to minimise the secondary abuse children suffer when they report rape and abuse against them. THE CHARITY... The successes of Matla A Bana include: • Since it’s beginning in 2002 more than 200 000 children have been helped. • The only NGO working in the field with whom SAPS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, giving MAB permission to present any project at any police station in the country. • MAB has a similar agreement with the National Prosecution Office. • MAB has the support of large media groups like Primedia, News 24 and lobbying groups like Shout and Crimeline. • MAB has close working relationships with a many NGOs working in the field, both in Gauteng and the Western Cape. • MAB has received national and international media coverage on the projects and impact of projects. • MAB and CEO, Monique Strydom, have received numerous awards, including the international Rotary Paul Harris award, Lions Hero of the Year Award, Unashamedly Ethical Award and Johnnie Walker Nations Greatest (Finalist). • Matla A Bana has the support of various national and international companies like Old Mutual, Absa Barclays, Rotary International, Roman’s Pizza, Dischem Foundation, City Lodge Group and Hyprop Foundation. • This year more than 20 000 children will be helped through MAB projects. www.matlaabana.co.za matla a bana
