18 March 2019 Yamma! Welcome to week 8 Tacoma! 20 March We have had another wonderful two weeks filled with fun and learning. I am again very WHS IT Taster Day EXCITED this week to welcome two new 21 March SLSO’s to Tacoma. Kendell Fenton and World Down Syndrome Bradley Pemberton have joined us in Day & Harmony Day paradise and will be working across the 22 March school to assist our students in their learning. Assembly—Banking talk Both Kendell & Brad are former Tacomians 27 March and were here from Kindergarten to Year 6. Kendell was our School Captain & Brad was Wadalba Year Advisor Seagull House Captain. How time flies, they visiting year 6 students have finished year 12 and are ready to take 5 April on the world!! They were great role models School Cross Country for our school and the community. Kendell is Hot cross bun order due famous at netball and Brad is famous for his 8 April wheelchair racing (fingers crossed for the Olympics next year!) We are so, so happy to Responsible Pet Education Program (K2) have them with us. Welcome to paradise! 12 April I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Zone swimming carnival last week at P&C raffle drawn Mingara. I was so proud of our Tacoma Easter hat parade students. They all represented our school Last day of term 1 fantastically and swam their very best on the 30 April day. It was exciting watching the relays too. Students return Congratulations to you all and good luck to our very own super fish Lucas & Harry Rouse who had a great day and are heading off to Sydney North! Well done boys! On Wednesday, we had our school photos. After a long, hectic day all the staff photo’s along with classes, individual, sibling, leader and drumroll………..the photo of the whole school were taken. Phew! I am sure you will
all be very happy with the results when they arrive in the rain. They have been onsite to check our drainage and coming weeks. stormwater drains and are looking into a solution. Fingers crossed this will be sorted soon. Friday was our Value assembly for Honesty. All our classes from K to 6 learn about values in their weekly lessons. I have been lucky to be involved with the Year 6 What we learn becomes a part of who we are. It is always fundraising group and they have some great ideas up their a fantastic achievement to receive one of these awards sleeves! Bamayi– Mrs Andrews (Kinder) Our next project, is our exciting musical garden with large Jibril, Selena, Isaac & Riley outdoor playground instruments! You know at Tacoma Badhu—Mrs Morassut (K/1) we love music and how it soothes our soul. Well, children Luciana, Khiannah & Zak benefit from auditory and tactile stimulation through the music’s vibrations. Outdoor playground instruments add a Murgu—Mrs Nicholson (Year 1) physical element to learning about music. Children can Chloe, Mark, Harlow & Joshua stand still while they play or bounce from note to note and dance to the music. It ignites all areas of child Waagir—Mr McFarlane (1/2) development. It helps the body and mind work together, Dylan, Harrison, Liam & Lana helps children learn the sounds and meaning of words, Garawa—Mrs Stuckey (2/3) allows for self- expression, helps memory skills, and improves mathematical learning. Our musical garden is Pippa, Ceej, Lincon & Seth accessible for all and so is our new bridge that we are Gundang—Mr Kirk (3/4) hoping to install in our playground. Fun, fun, fun……. no-one is going to want to go home!! Madison, Liam, Connor & Kaleb The last two doors will be painted very soon to finish off Balba—Mrs Fletcher(4/5) the rooms up the top. A lockdown is signalled by a continuous ascending beep- ing and all who are on site are to move directly to the closest building. We ask that no one enters the school during this time.
Zone Swimming Carnival 2019 Harmony Day Thursday 21 March 2019 Wear cultural attire or come dressed in ORANGE (Harmony Day colour). Top your outfit off with some CRAZY SOCKS (for World Down Syndrome Day). Bring a small plate of food representing your family’s culture to share with your class during your ‘Class Cultural Picnic’ Invite your family and friends to join us in the hall at 2pm for a variety of cultural performances.
