WELCOME The Bendigo Art Gallery Voluntary Guides welcome you to the 22nd AAGGO Conference to be held in Bendigo, from 26 to 29 March 2019. The theme of the Conference is Navigating Our View. Bendigo Art Gallery has a celebrated reputation as a dynamic and innovative regional gallery. Its extensive collection of 19th century European and Australian art sits alongside a strong collection of contemporary Australian art. We, the Bendigo Guides, who will be proudly celebrating 30 years of guiding in 2019, are excited by the opportunity to share the delights of our gallery, our city and our region with you. We are looking forward to establishing new friendships and renewing old friendships. A very warm welcome will be extended to all. Please join us next March. The four-day Conference will present an informative and educative program for you to enjoy. The session presenters will be drawn from the broad range of disciplines associated with the arts, including leading artists, academics, educators, curators, fine art authors and publishers. There will be something for everyone. Please watch our website for program updates, session and presenter details as these are released closer to the Conference date. www.bendigoartgallery.com.au/aaggo2019program The timing of the AAGGO Conference coincides with the Tudors to Windsors exhibition at the Bendigo Art Gallery. This major exhibition from the National Portrait Gallery, London, will present significant royal portraits, exploring five royal dynasties: the Tudors, the Stuarts, the Georgians, the Victorians and the Windsors. Shedding light on key figures and important historical moments, the exhibition will offer insights into the development of British art including works by some of the most notable artists to have worked in Britain, from Sir Peter Lely and Sir Godfrey Kneller to Cecil Beaton and Annie Leibovitz. www.bendigoartgallery.com.au/tudorstowindsors Australia’s flagship regional arts festival, the Castlemaine State Festival, will be in full swing our from 22 to 31 March. This biennial ten-day multi-arts celebration draws on the distinctive culture of the Central Victorian Goldfields Region – of old and new, of the artistic and the agricultural, and its dynamic community strengths. The Festival showcases works from the region’s finest artists and performing arts companies, alongside those by national and international artists. It’s sure to be a vibrant and stimulating time in our region and we encourage you to take the opportunity to explore and indulge in all that will be on offer! 3
