Bradley A. Kersten, Supervisor In addition to serving as the Township’s legal agent and Secretary to the Assessing Board of Review, the Township Supervisor is responsible for moderating board meetings, developing the township budget, recommending members to the various boards and commissions, and managing the day-to-day operations of the Township. A Message From Your Supervisor.... We are approaching the end of yet another challenging, yet exciting year. During this time of year, everyone is preparing for the cold weather and the upcoming holiday season. The holidays are a wonderful time to look back with gratitude for what we have and to celebrate the coming year with optimism and enthusiasm. As I reflect on my first 5 months as your Supervisor, I would be remiss if I did not express my appreciation and thanks to all our Chesterfield Township residents, along with Board of Trustees and the staff of Chesterfield Township. You are all remarkable individuals, and I thank you all for the support you’ve shown this year, and during my transition from Public Safety Director to Township Supervisor. In the Supervisor’s Office we are preparing for our fiscal year 2022 budget. As your Township Supervisor, and Chief Administrative Officer, I am responsible for the preparation and presentation of each fiscal year’s budget. Once the prepared budget is finalized, I will present the budget to the Board of Trustees for adoption. I am excited to have the opportunity to make a larger impact in my community, and look forward to the many challenges ahead. In the last edition, I committed to working diligently with our leadership team and members of the staff to increase communication with both employees and residents of our community. Our Township Facebook that had just been created in the last edition has taken off with the Township posting two to three times a week, helping to ensure that the community and employees are up-to-date with the latest information. I also expressed my passion for the expansion and improvement of technology within the Township in the last edition. I am proud to pass along that we have held multiple meetings with multiple vendors to find a solid foundation to advance Chesterfield into the future. At the October 12, 2021 Board of Trustees meeting, the board passed a recom- mendation to upgrade our current Township BS&A software program to BS&A Cloud. In addition to this upgrade, 27 participant user licenses and 7 full user licenses for our Laserfiche program were approved. This will allow for all staff to participant in our upgraded software, and will be what takes Chesterfield Township into the future. As we enter 2022, be assured we will continue to act in the best interests of our residents. Let us all continue to work together, for more progress and further development of our beautiful Township. Everyone be safe, and have a great holiday season. Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year….. Snow Flurries Got You Worried? • Did you know that Chesterfield Township has the ability to declare a snow emergency? Snow emergencies are declared by the Township Supervisor. No person shall park or leave any vehicle or trailer on a public road in the Township when a snow emergency has been declared. Further, within two hours after notice of a snow emergency has been given, any motor vehicle or trailer parked on any public road within the Township may be removed by the Township or its agents. For immediate notification of a snow emergency, sign up online for our Notify Me service at www.chesterfieldtwp.org. • Did you know that Chesterfield Township is not responsible for removing snow on any roads? The Macomb County Department of Roads is who maintains all public (County and State) roads during winter and otherwise. If you have concerns regarding the condition of your street, please reach out to the MCDR at (586) 463-8671 or at roads.macombgov.org. Private roads are the responsibilty of the residents who reside on the street. Helpful Tips for Winterizing Your Home • Turn off your water at the meter: Close the valve after the water meter. By doing this, water will not continuously run if a pipe bursts. • Winterize your pipes: Focus on your outside hose bibs, sprinkler system, and pipes on the outside walls of your home. Drain the water from pipes and add insulation or heat tape. • Crawl Spaces: Insulate your crawl space and add insulation or heat tape to water pipes. • Set Thermostats: Set your thermostat to 55o F. This, in addition to keeping cabinet doors open, will keep pipes warm enough. • Have someone check on your home: Ask a trusted person to keep watch on your home to check for potential problems. Should a problem arise, contact the Water Department immediately to assist in further preventing potential damage. Board of Review SNOW EMERGENCIES The Board of Review will meet March 14-16, 2022 to hear appeals from tax- payers. Appeals can only be heard at this meeting.
