this historical match between Clapton Football Club and Hamworthy
United FC at Parkside Stadium.
We hope your journey was pleasant and that your return home is the
same, as we have been advised that we may have snow before the end of
the day!
There is an irony in Clapton having to play at Aveley's ground, having just
verti-drained and re-seeded our home ground at Terrence McMillian, to
improve the surface, only then to be advised that the facility will not be
re-opened for December. Gutted!
The Hammers will, undoubtedly test Clapton’s young side but we believe

they are more than capable and able to do the task being asked of them.
With the plights of clubs below step 3 in doubt as to finishing the season,
both clubs have an added reason to go all out to win this match. Although
both rightfully will say the league is our focus. In that department both
teams seem to love the cup considering both are fighting to be one of the
last 64 in the draw.
Clapton has focussed primarily on building for the future, with an exciting
crop of young players together with a few experienced old heads
sprinkled throughout. This has resulted in a very healthy competitiveness
for places, which is good for any club.
The new Manager, Mickey Wetherall, and Head of Football, Qayam
Shakoor, have forged a good working relationship. The Clapton board on
the other hand, have been provided with the tools they have requested
z
and the backing to get the job done.

HAMWORTHY UNITED FC HISTORY A team was first formed in the 1890's called Hamworthy St Michael's, winning their first trophy the Whitehead Minor Cup in the 1899-1900 season. Hamworthy Football Club was formed in 1926 and moved to the present ground The County Ground (formally known as The Nursery) in 1950. Hamworthy United Football Club was formed from a merger between Hamworthy F.C. and Trinidad Old Boys F.C. in 1970/71 after missing the 1969/70 season in the Dorset Combination League due to administration problems. The County Ground was renamed the Specsavers County Ground by the Dorset County Football Association the leaseholders in 2018. Hamworthy United First Team have been members of the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division since winning promotion at the start of the 2004/5 season from the Dorset Premier League. The Hammer's Second Team was promoted from the Dorset First Division at the end of the 2004/5 to play in the Dorset Premier League. They dropped out of that League at the end of the 2017-18 season with the intention of entering a Development Team in its place in the Wyvern League. Due to a last minute complication they were unable to do so until the start of the 2019-2020 when they joined the Wyvern (Western) Division. Hamworthy had an Under Eighteen Team in the Dorset Youth League since its formation until they unfortunately had to withdraw it in 2009 due to managerial problems, but they were able to reform in time for the 2010/11 season. With Chairman Steve Harvey and his new Board of Directors keen to see Hamworthy United develop their own talent an Under Sixteen team was started in 2018 followed by an Under15 team in 2019. Hamworthy United has had great success at all levels over the years in various competitions. After winning the Dorset Combination/Dorset Premier league two years running they were promoted in the 2004-2005 Season to Wessex League Division 1. Hamworthy won the Wessex League Cup in their first season beating Thatcham Town in the final at Christchurch. They reached the final again in the 2008/2009 season, but this time lost to VTFC 2-1 after a very close contest. The Hammers won the Dorset Combination Cup in the 1997/1998 season against Wareham Town, and the Dorset Senior Cup in the 2005/2006 season against Poole Town. Hamworthy lost to Eastleigh Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup in the 2007/08 and went out to Basingstoke Town at the same stage in 2008/9. Hamworthy have had several good runs in the FA Vase one of their best being in the 2008/09 when they got as far as the 3rd Qualifying Round where they lost to Hungerford. The Hammers once again reached the Final of the Dorset Senior Cup in 2013/14 when managed by Graham Kemp but lost it 2-0 to Poole Town. They again reached the 2nd Qualifying round of the FA Cup in 2015/16 this time going out to two late goals scored by the much higher ranked Bideford. In 2018/19 United got as far as the 4th Qualifying Round (down to the last 32) in the FA Vase, but just lost out to Willand Rovers away at their ground 1-0. Hamworthy United Football Club, after years of playing on an exceedingly difficult pitch, and with very limited facilities and resources, saw things begin to change when the DCFA decided to upgrade the Ground in 2016. This included a new 3-g all weather artificial pitch as well as new floodlights and surrounds. Shortly afterwards the Club received the news that due to the generous legacy of Hamworthy stalwart Stan Wallis and his wife Betty, together with a grant from the Football Stadia Foundation Fund meant that they at long last would be able to double the size of the Clubhouse and Bar to generate more income. Harry Redknapp performed the opening ceremony of the Clubhouse in October 2017 followed by a match between Hamworthy United and a Dorset Representative Team. Other changes at that time saw the Club become a Limited Company now headed by Steve Mitchener as Chairman and four other Directors including the Club President Bruce Scammell.

CLAPTON FOOTBALL CLUB The history of Clapton is very much that of a club which has a history and reputation unparalleled in nonleague football. Founded in 1878 as Downs FC in Downs Rd Hackney, the club moved to its present site in 1888 and changed its name to Clapton Football Club in the same year. Clapton in 1894 became founder members of the Southern League (Dr Martins) along with Luton Town, Milwall, Reading, Southampton and Swindon. Arsenal were prime movers but left to join the football league whilst Tottenham Hotspurs application was rejected!! The club was one of the original founder members of the Isthmian League in 1905 which was then and up until the early 70s one of the most important semi-professional leagues in the county. Clapton’s reputation and history are tied to the early days of this league and the prestigious FA Amateur Cup and were twice winners of the league and five times winners of the Cup. In 1956 Clapton played in the first floodlit game for an amateur side against Barking at Upton Park in front of 5,000 people. Their best ever FA Cup run was during this time with a 1-1 draw against QPR in 1957 before losing the reply away 1-3 in front of 14,000. With the introduction of the Premier Division, Clapton had a brief change of fortune and won the Division Two title in 1982-83 as well as the Essex Senior Cup in 1983-84 beating Southend Utd. The Essex Thameside Trophy was won in 1983-84 and retained the following year. Relegation to the newly formed Division 2 North followed in 1984-85. Still the club rallied to win the Essex Senior Trophy in 1988 and lost in the final of the London Senior Cup the same year 0-1 to then conference side Fisher Athletic. However, a 7th place finish in 1988-1989 saw a mass exodus of players at the end of the season and two seasons later Clapton were in Division 3 (now Div 2) upon reorganisation of the league. The club now plays in the Essex Senior League. Today with Chief Executive Vince McBean at the helm, the club is continuing to develop the foundations for the future based on a long-term structure. Since 2012, through the continued drive of management and the development team, the club again starting to make strides again up the league table. Clapton finished in 7th place in 2015-16 and were winners of the Gordon Braested Memorial Trophy in the same year. The 2016-17 season saw the Tons maintain a strong position in the standings of the Essex Senior League, eventually finishing in 2nd place overall. After a short spell ground sharing with Southend Manor FC in 2019, the Tons have made a new home at the Terence McMillan Stadium in Plaistow, E13 8SD, for the 2020-21 season.

THE TONS FOOTBALL MANAGEMENT TEAM Qayum Shakoor is one of the most recognised and respected faces in lower league football around East London / Essex, with over two decades of experience and involvement in football. He is the current part-time Head of Crawley U23’s as well as the Head of Football operations at Clapton FC. He has been instrumental in the careers of several players that have played in the Premier League, such as Fabrice Muamba and Al Bangura, as well as having managed both Colin Kazim Richards and Bradley Johnson in youth tournaments. More recently he has helped place players into both Crawley and Carlisle first team. Micky has worked in many levels of football from youth to men’s first team managing in the Ryman North Division 1 with Les Whitton at Brentwood’s first team, Micky brings a wealth of experience and hunger to help structure the club and build on a project that is taking shape. He has a great pool of players that have played for him and has a great work rate on and off the pitch. He has experience with a number of clubs including Redbridge FC Reserves, Grays FC Reserves, May and Bakers FC, Ilford FC, Basildon FC, Brentwood FC, and Redbridge FC. Jetmir started his football journey at Borehamwood from the age of 16 to 19. After leaving Borehamwood, Jetmir played for Enfield 1893, St. Margaretsbury FC, and Waltham Forest. After a short break from football he returned to work with Clapton as part of the coaching where he is an assistant coach/player.
