PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Best of Drams at Whisky Live 2014: Collections [Singapore, August 2014] Southeast Asia’s largest whisky and spirit show is back in Singapore for the fifth year. Coined Whisky Live 2014: Collections, this year’s event is an extravaganza of the best of whiskies and spirits, and celebrates not just the finest but also the rarest and most acclaimed brands with the newly dedicated Collector Room. With the prestigious event held at Singapore’s iconic Raffles Hotel, and boasting hundreds of expressions of whisk(e)y over 40 brands, and 25 brands of spirit, Whisky Live 2014 is the largest in Singapore yet. Attendees will have the chance to sample a wide range of whiskies and spirits, including rare bottles along with craft spirits. Masterclasses, led by experts of the industry, are also open to trade visitors and the public to provide a more in-depth experience. Some of the Singapore’s best dining and drinking scenes are also coming together to give the event greater diversity and an even greater experience. The event will have the support of Burnt Ends, one of Zagat’s 2014 “10 hottest restaurants in the world”. This restaurant will offer all visitors a creative food pairing based on five whiskies and spirits. A cheese pairing by The Cheese Ark will also be offered to visitors. Another highlight will be a contest that gathers the very best of Singapore’s cocktail bars behind the same counter. This friendly competition will see each of the following bars compete against the rest in creating a special cocktail for the Whisky Live pop up cocktail bar: 28 Hong Kong Street, Anti:Dote, Jigger and Pony, L’Aiglon and the Library. “Whisky Live Singapore has been a sold-out event for the past four years. Singapore is a country with one of the highest consumption of Scotch whisky, one of the most emblematic ones, and has great influence in Southeast Asia; making it the perfect location to showcase the best of whisky and spirits in this region,” shares Mr. Julien Nicolay, General Manager of La Maison du Whisky. La Maison du Whisky is the organiser of Whisky Live 2010 to 2014. “Local and regional demand and appreciation of whisky and spirit are on an unprecedented high. Whisky Live serves as a perfect platform to experience a selection of the world’s best whiskies and spirits for novices, enthusiasts and experts.” Mr Nicolay adds: “This year’s event features a lot more brands and offers varied exciting experiences, making it a thrilling event for both whisky connoisseurs and beginners just wanting to have a great time. Some of the most prestigious and highly celebrated whiskies from legendary distilleries as well as recent releases from innovative new producers from all over the world will also be featured at the event. With the introduction of The Collector Room, we are bringing the experience to a whole new level.”
The Collector Room Unique to this year’s show is a special treat and rare opportunity for whisky aficionados: The Collector Room will be serving more than 40 bottles of the world’s rarest, oldest and most acclaimed whiskies such as several Karuizawas dating back to 1968, Lagavulin 37 year-old, Port Ellen from 1977, the classic Glendronach 1972, the latest release of Hanyu, The Joker and many more. The Collector Room will have a very special host to share his passion on whiskies: Mr. Benjamin Chen, the only Singaporean invited to become a member of The Malt Maniacs, a highly recognized single malt community. He will share his passion over a dram or two with the lucky guests with access to the Collector Room. Attendees will also be entitled two free drams of whisk(e)y from the Collector Room, and more of these emblematic bottles can be tasted for an exceptional price. To name a few, Karuizawa 1968, the Graal of Collectors, can be tasted for $135 a dram or $75 a half dram, instead of a regular bar price of $200, or a Port Ellen Milroy's Single Cask 18-year-old from 1977 can be tasted for $40 a dram or $22 a half dram instead of $80. The room guarantees a comfortable and enjoyable environment for attendees made even better with Whisky Live 2014 appointing Leica as the official photographer. The Collector Room will showcase a dedicated photo exhibition on whisk(e)y, specially shot for the event. Attendees will also have a professional “presidential portrait” taken and printed by Leica.
