YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS & COMMUNITY PARTNER RECIPIENTS 2018 Roxana Perez, Mary V. King “Leading the Way” Youth Scholarship OUR WORK Recipient & Inductee East Bay Community Recovery Project The Mary V. King "Leading the Way" Youth Scholarship Fund helps propel young Love Never Fails leaders towards meaningful futures in civic engagement. The Women’s Hall of Fame WestCoast Children’s Clinic also makes charitable donations to worthy community-based organizations that Hack the Hood support the women, youth, and families of Alameda County. MEET Roxana Perez 2017 2018 Mary V. King “Leading the Way” Youth Scholarship Recipient Lauryn Nguyen, Mary V. King “Leading the Way” Youth Scholarship Recipient & Inductee CALICO Roxana is a graduate from Aspire Golden Gate Prep in Oakland who, at Magnolia Women’s Recovery Programs, Inc. just age 17, she has already demonstrated extraordinary leadership through working to improve the quality of life for the disadvantaged, OneChild her peers and future generations in the City of Oakland. While serving School of Imagination as Co-Chair on the Mayors Commission on Youth, she has supported sub -commissions on Education, Public Safety and Environmental Sustaina- 2016 bility. In these sub-commissions, she raises awareness on youth issues Lizbeth Hernandez, Youth Scholarship Recipient & Inductee and ideas that can be brought to the attention of city council. Along with others Roxana, submitted a resolution for public safety on ICE and is Bay Area Women Against Rape (BAWAR) leading projects that will impact 3,000 youth in Oakland. Those projects Brighter Beginnings are centered on improving police and youth relationships. She has also Destiny Arts Center led an effort to deliver 50 care packages, along with clothing, to the Stop Human Exploitation and Trafficking (H.E.A.T.) also known as homeless in accord with Police National Night Out. H.E.A.T. Watch Roxana’s passionate service for social justice is in the beginning stage, Tri-Valley Haven but she has ultimately paved the way for others in her community. The Mary V. King “Leading the Way” Youth Scholarship is assisting Roxana as a 2018 freshman on the campus of Cal State Berkeley, East Bay.
