You can add one sentence under your title for company description
  • Lead with most impressive / relevant bullet points first
  • 2 or 4 bullets to describe your role and accomplishments in total
  • Avoid first person or use pronouns (I, me, we)
  • Be quantitative in nature (%, $ and #) as much as possible
  • Add in technology when you use it and how you use it
  • Use action verbs and adjectives to highlight accomplishments
  • Avoid using little 2 and 3 letter filler words (a, the, of, an, etc.)
  • Strong Accomplishment Statements 1-2 lines at most add in results
  • Avoid sentences- periods?
Accomplishment Statements

Use these three elements to create strong, concise bullets:

   1. Challenge: What problem did you solve?

   2. Action: How?

   3. Result: What did you do/achieve? (For whom?)

You can use either form: RAC or CAR

Tip: Numbers and Technology stand out
Accomplishment Statement - Examples
Before: Worked in Sales Department using data to support marketing efforts and decision making
Improved customer reach and product placement by developing predictive models in
collaboration with marketing managers

Before: Responsible for updating inventory database
Optimized inventory management by redesigning database, which reduced excess stock
by 15%
                               OR
Optimized inventory management by redesigning database, 15% reduction of excess stock
Exercise: Write a Strong Bullet
  1. Find a bullet from an internship, position or project from your previous
  resume.

  2. In a breakout room with 1 classmate, discuss it and try to strengthen it using
CAR (challenge, action, result) or RAC.

Keep in mind: How can it be more clear, concise, numbers orientated?

Resume Pitfalls
• Too wordy and hard to read because if you do this a recruiter will stop
reading your resume because they don’t have time to read a diary of all of
your thoughts. Then they will not learn who you are and your resume will end
  up in the special bin.
• Spellin or grammer errors.
• Using the same words over and over and over and over and over and over
• Being too general
Tips to Remember
• CONTENT: Must be relevant to the reader

• ACCURACY: Dates, titles, spelling (error free!)

• PRESENTATION: Consistent formatting is key

• RESULTS/IMPACT: Quantify/qualify your results or business impact as much as possible
  - ($ saved or $ generated, %, #’s)

• TECHNOLOGY: Talk tech to me, they really want to know when you used the tools

• ACTION VERBS: Use a variety of action verbs to begin each bullet
