View this e-mail in your browser Tandridge District at Medium COVID Alert Level Under the new three tier system of local COVID Alert Levels introduced by the government, the Tandridge District and most of Surrey are currently at medium alert level. This is the lowest level with two other levels of high and very high. For the medium level the current restrictions are: People must not meet in groups larger than six, indoors or outdoors. Overnight stays are allowed subject to social contact rules. Work from home where possible. Shops, schools and further education colleges, youth clubs, healthcare services, leisure centres and gyms remain open. Hospitality venues (pubs, restaurants, etc) are open with some restrictions, including table service only and 10pm closing time. Businesses and venues selling food for takeaways can continue after 10pm, as long as this is through a delivery service, click-and-collect or drive-thru. Entertainment and tourist attractions remain open, except for nightclubs and adult entertainment. Residential care is open to external visitors with additional precautions Up to 15 guests for weddings and up to 30 guests for funerals. 15 for receptions, wakes and related ceremonies.
No travel restrictions, but avoid travelling to higher risk areas where possible. Organised sport and licensed physical activity allowed in outdoor settings. Indoor organised sport must follow social contact rules. Places of worship are open, subject to social contact rules. Registered and wraparound childcare open. Supervised activities permitted in private homes. Children’s groups permitted. Please remember to wash your hands regularly, wear a face covering in enclosed spaces and stay 2 metres apart. Self-employed Income Support scheme The deadline to apply for the second Self- Employment Income Support Scheme grant is Monday 19 October. It's a non-repayable, taxable grant, worth up to £6,570, made up of three months (of 70%) average trading profits. A third and fourth grant are due, although only details of the third have been provided so far. It will cover 20% of profits. Find out more about the new self-employment grants.
Job Support Scheme extended A six month Job Support Scheme is set to replace furlough from 1 November. The government will pay two thirds of salary if businesses are forced to close, up to a maximum of £2,100 a month. It gives state support for those who can work some, but not all their hours. This will also include businesses forced to close because of local or national lockdowns, eg pubs, restaurants, including waiting staff at restaurants that become takeaways. Employers are only responsible for any national insurance and pension payments needed. Get all the details at Job Support Scheme. Start Up Croydon Start-Up Croydon helps anyone who wants to start their own business with both business planning and the development of basic business skills. Free half day Business Awareness Seminar. This is ideal for those considering starting their own business and highlights the tasks and challenges which need to be considered. Seminars take place on a Tuesday morning once a month from 9.30am–11.30am at Weatherill House Business Centre. Monthly three day business training programme for £25, covers all aspects of running your business, including company set-up, administration, finance and marketing. Government backed Start Up Loan Apply for a government backed Start Up Loan of £500 to £25,000 to start or grow your business. Unlike a business loan, this is an unsecured personal loan. You’ll get free support and guidance to help write your business plan, and successful applicants get up to 12 months of free mentoring. Find out more. Start Up Academy Surrey Chambers of Commerce, supported by projectfive and Eagle Radio, is launching a Start-Up Academy. By joining the Academy you will get access to advice and resources to help you develop your business and increase your network. The Academy will take place once a month from 26 October 2020 to 17 May 2021 from 10am to 1.30pm. Key areas of business will be covered, with a keynote speaker starting the day, followed by an interactive session in the afternoon. The academy is open to anyone, not just Chamber members. There is a small commitment fee of £40. Sessions are currently virtual. Guide to small business grants in the UK Simply Business has put together details of the different small business grants available depending on the sector you want to go into. Visit Simply Business to find out more. Match funded grants to help grow your businesses Invest4 grant funds are part of the ERDF funded Hot House programme, run by University of Chichester. The grants programme is managed by Brighton & Hove City Council. Grants are available to both pre-start and to growing established businesses. These are match-fund grants where the 40% balance is provided by Invest4 for: Small grants of between £2,000 to £5,000. For these you submit a small grants application form. Start ups can only apply for small grants. Large grants of between £5,000 to £170,000. For these you need to submit an Expression of Interest form in the first instance. Surrey Chambers digital membership Surrey Chambers of Commerce is offering new members a digital membership for £120 a year, plus VAT. Peer Networks Programme Applications are still open for the Peer Networks Programme. This is a national peer-to-peer networking programme for small business leaders who want to grow and develop their organisation for future success. The programme is available to any SME business that has: Operated for at least one year. At least five employees. A turnover of at least £100,000. An aspiration to improve. The potential to scale up or export or is exporting already. The programme is free and businesses can register their interest. Preparing for EU transition Surrey Chambers is preparing for the EU transition and has webinars and training available, The International Trade team is being expanded to

UK points based immigration system From 1 January 2021, you will need to register as a licensed sponsor to hire eligible people from outside the UK. Free movement is ending and the points based immigration system will introduce job, salary and language requirements that will change the way you hire from the EU. The system will treat EU and non-EU citizens equally and transform the way in which employers recruit from outside the UK. You’ll need a sponsor licence to hire most eligible employees from outside the UK. This does not apply to Irish citizens. Read the employers guide.
