Survivor Skills Club
Introduction
Welcome to the Survivor Skills Club! We are
excited for you to join the club. At the end
of this club, you will have many new survival
skills to get through any pandemic we may
face in the years to come.

The club is a group of campers in an isolated
location. The campers will complete
challenges for rewards and medals from
camp leaders (teachers). The campers are
motivated by their fellow campers every
week with chants, rhymes, and interactive
dances. The final week, one camper is given Camp Leaders

Challenge: Bamboo Relay
Materials
  • 1 ½ or larger PVC pipe in foot
     sections- one piece per team
  • marbles

Preparation
The object of the challenge is to move
through an obstacle course while two
teammates hold opposite ends of the PVC
pipe with a marble inside it. If the marble
drops out during the relay, the two who
dropped it have to start again. This is harder
than it sounds and lots of fun.

Instructions
   1. Make sure the campers hold the PVC
pipe about 6” from each end with
only one hand so they can’t stop the
marble from falling out with their
      hands.
   2. You can also run this relay with one
camper. Have them hold the PVC pipe
in the center with one hand.
   3. For a real challenge add more
      marbles or additional rounds adding
      marbles each time.

                                                                                 4

Challenge: Island Flip
Materials
  • shower curtain or tablecloth for each
     team

Preparation
The object of the game is to see which team
can flip their island (the shower curtain)
over first.

Instructions
   1. All team members must stand on the
island and then try and flip it over
      without stepping off the island.
   2. If a player steps off the island they
      must start again.
   3. This is a mind challenge and is great
      for team building.

                                                                                 5

Challenge: Coconut Relay
Materials
  • Ping pong balls
  • Pool noodle for each team
  • Cone or materials for creating a small
     obstacle course

Preparation
This game works best indoors on a tile floor.
Set up an area with a cone of small, simple
obstacle course for maneuvering.

Instructions
The object of the game is for teams (or one
person at a time) to herd 3 ping pongs balls
(or coconuts) at the same time around an
obstacle course (or back and forth around
an orange cone) only using the end of the
pool noodle.

For outside, you can still use the ping pong
balls or balloons. Tip: the ping pong balls
can be colored with permanent markers in
the team colors to keep track of what
belongs to each team.

                                                                                 6

Challenge: Rope Relay
Materials
  • 25 feet of rope
  • Brown, paper lunch sacks
  • Kids’ puzzles with 30 or fewer pieces
     (one for each team)

Instructions:
1. For each team you will need to break up
the puzzles and place about 2 or 3 pieces
of the puzzle in 8-10 lunch sacks (you
can also use zip lock bags). Fold the bags
over several times and use a hole punch
to make a hole in the top middle part of
the folded bags (the bags should be flat).
2. Tie a loop in the end of the long piece of
rope then string the rope through one of
   the puzzle bags.
3. Tie a loose knot around the bag and then
tie several looser knots down the rope.
Then, put on another puzzle bag and
repeat until all the bags are tied onto the
rope and there are 6-10 knots in
   between each bag.
4. Try and make each rope have the same
   amounts of knots.
5. Hook the loop at the end of each rope
under the bottoms of a chair. The teams
should decide who will unknot the ropes
to get the puzzle pieces and who will
   solve the puzzle.
6. Make sure that the players understand
they must unknot each knot on the rope
to get the puzzle pieces and they cannot
   rip them off the rope.
7. When all puzzle bags have been collected,
the campers who have been chosen to
   solve the puzzle can begin.
8. First team with all the knots out of their
rope and a finished puzzle wins.

                                                                                 7

Challenge: Hula Circle Relay
Materials
  • A hula hoop for each team

Instructions
1. Teams form a large circle and hold hands.
2. Please wash hands before and after the
   challenge.
3. On “go”, each team is given a hula hoop
and they must break hands to put it on
the first person’s arm and then not let go
of their hands during the rest of the
   challenge.
4. The teams must find a way to move the
hula hoop around their circle without
   letting go of their hands.
5. Have the hula hoop go around the circle
2 or 3 times. The winning team is the
first ones to complete the circles.

                                                                                 8
