July 2020 A MESSAGE FROM TRUSTEE NATHANIEL GEORGE BOOKER The month of June 2020 was met with great passion and focus for not only the Black Lives Matter movement, but Reimagining Freedom in America. It was an honor and a privilege to assist Commissioner Johnson launch 2 community rallies one of which was at our Fred Hampton Aquatic Center, where we had Governor Pritzker and Lt. Governor Stratton speak and hand out our Proviso Census 2020 Fresh Produce and PPE. It was also an honor to serve on the planning committee under the direction of Senator Lightford as we mapped a march that would unite Broadview, Bellwood, Maywood, Forest Park, and many other surrounding communities' residents as we celebrated Juneteenth. During the past month we also hosted a community talk on mental health as well as starting the conversation on addressing our food dessert status through the possibility of a Food Coop. If you missed any of these conversations you can always view the presentations and virtual calls, by visiting www.maywoodtogether.com/live-talks. During the month of July we will start the discussion on Community Policing, Safety, and Police Relations. We will continue to focus on mental, social, emotion, and physical health for all while we start to reopen community activities in a way the CDC and the Cook County Department of Public Health recommends.
