Our 2-day themed Creative Writing Courses are designed to ignite your child’s imagination and develop their writing skills whilst having fun. The course will link literacy activities under a common theme encouraging the children to explore different genres and find interest and excitement in the world of writing. Tuesday 2nd August 1:30-3:30 pm or Years 4-6 Tuesday 16th August 10:00-12:00 pm THINKING & MEMORY SKILLS How often do you hear “I can’t remember that”? Learning by rote is no longer a part of our children’s education as it was for many of us. Consequently, many do not develop skills of how to remember information be it number bonds, times tables, play scripts, capital cities etc. This is a fun course of Thinking Skills and Memory Aids conducted by one of our specialist teachers. The children learn strategies to aid their memory in all areas of the curriculum and cover organisational techniques. COURSES FOR YEARS 9 & 10 HOW TO ACE UNSEEN POETRY | Weds 24th August 1:30-3:30pm Sometimes it seems the joy of reading poetry vanishes when we are called to analyse it. Of all the aspects of English literature, the unseen poetry can cause the most anxiety. This practises the skills of analysis and will hopefully demystify the process as well as featuring some lovely and thought- provoking poems. THE MATHEMATICS OF GAMES | Thurs 25th August 1.30-3.30pm Explore some of our most popular card and board games from a mathematical perspective. The course will show how we can solve problems using mathematical knowledge, understanding probability and why you should never gamble in a casino! LEARN BY POST CORRESPONDENCE COURSE Our “Learn by Post” correspondence course is ideal if you are away from London for much of the summer holidays but would like your child to maintain a reasonable level of work. The packs are tailored to the individual needs and age of the child. A personalised pack containing a number of different tasks will be sent through the post for the children to work on throughout the week. The booking form allows you to specify the date you would like each pack sent, and the address, as well as any special requests regarding the content. The children enjoy receiving their envelope through the post and returning their work to us in the envelope provided. We then return it back to you, marked. Previous participants have found this a fun way to keep some educational momentum through a long summer away from school. Up to five different packs are available £40 Key Stages 1 & 2 – see booking site for dates. We per pack recommend a minimum of two packs 13
