Dear Children’s Home Family, It is almost impossible to put into words everything it takes to op- erate a mission like the Children’s Home of Lubbock. Whether it is the 250,000 sq ft of buildings, roughly 400 acres of land, the 67-year-old campus, or providing for and protecting 140 children, the list of needs is endless. We receive roughly 1/3 of the cost it takes to care for these children from the State of Texas while the rest comes from loyal do- nors like you! We are so thankful for every blessing you pour out to us. To paint as clear a picture as possible of where your dollars are going, we wanted to provide a snapshot of what programs we have, what programs are coming, and what the items in those programs cost. We would love for you to dive into this catalog, learn as much as you can about our programs, and connect with the one that stirs your heart. We cannot take care of the least of these without you. Thank you for your giving hearts and generous donations. Blessings, Chris Chisholm Executive V.P. of Operations How it Works: We have carefully You can learn about chosen items that the impact of these meet the needs of programs at the important programs Children’s Home of at the Home. Spiritual Life SPIRITUAL At the Children’s Home, our priority is to LIFE meet the spiritual needs of the children in addition to their physical and mental needs. Our house parents take the kids to church regularly, and last year we had four of our kids baptized in Christ. Our Spiritual Life program is a focused effort to show the Love of Christ to the children and the staff who care for them. We are in the process of partnering with the Youth and Family Ministry department at LCU. To renew this program, this partnership will include expanded opportunities for future ministers to work with our children, using modern techniques under the direction of the highly qualified staff at both LCU and the Children’s Home. For more information on this you can email cchisholm@childshome.org. We have a mentorship program in place at the Home, which provides for a true relationship to grow between a volunteer and a child in a one-on-one setting. This is a deep-dive opportunity for anyone 21 and older who wants to truly make a difference in the life of one of our children. We are looking for Christian mentors who are wanting to invest in a life of a child at the Home. You can email Callie Mason, at cmason@childshome.org for more information. THE ANIMAL THERAPEUTIC CENTER What is the need? The farm has been a part of the Children’s Home since the beginning. It has played different roles and been utilized in different ways over the years. In 2015 we began a small program of using animals for trauma therapy for our children. We saw success, but we also saw a great need for a bigger facility, and more resources. The expansion of this program is a dream that you can make a reality. Above is the photo a render- ing of what our plans are for this facility. SUPERVISED INDEPENDENT LIVING According to The National Alliance to End Homelessness, 40-50% of former foster youth become homeless within 18 months of leaving the system. The Supervised Independent Living (SIL) program is a prevention program to combat homeless- ness. SIL provides housing and support for young people who have aged out of care. It is the ultimate goal of the SIL program to provide participants with the education, experiences, & skills necessary to become successful and pro-social adults. Participants work with a case manager to develop their own treatment plan as they transition to independence. All participants are required to work and to attend a school or some kind of vocational training. Cover a month Cover a month of rent: $450 of utilities: $150 Donate a Car? It’s difficult to get to work/class without a car. As part of this program we help the youth buy a car that they pay a percentage of and we teach them the responsibility of taking care of a vehicle. To donate a car, you can contact Luke Mason at lrmason@childshome.org 10 www.childshome.org CHILDREN’S HOME OF LUBBOCK
ACTIVITIES FUND Hear from a former House Parent Growing up, my mother would take my brother and I to different activities. She would take us to the movies, bowling, arcades, and swimming. It was import- ant for our development to run around like children in a fun atmosphere. A huge part of the Children’s Home is to give each and every child that comes on our cam- pus the closest thing to a normal life. The Activities Fund gives us the ability to give the children a distraction from some of the trauma that they have faced in their life. As a house parent, it was amazing to get to use this fund to take the teen boys to go experience activities they do not normally have the opportunity to experi- ence. With the Activities Fund, I was able to take the teen boys hiking in Palo Duro Canyon State Park, bowling, to the Altitude Trampoline Park, to the movies, or just go out to eat. The Activities Fund means a lot to the children at the home. It would be a blessing to see this fund grow for the cottages on campus so each cottage can take their kids out to do more activities around the city of Lubbock. This is a fund you can give to and know that you put smiles on kid’s faces from the Home. -Luke Mason If you are interested in contributing to the Activities Fund: $40 covers one month of activities for a child at the Home $320 covers an entire cottage’s activities for one month www.childshome.org CHILDREN’S HOME OF LUBBOCK 11
OTHER PROGRAMS YOU CAN IMPACT: Foster Care Counseling Center Emergency Shelter “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:12 There are so many needs at the Home, but we are so grateful that the Lord has blessed us with a community that is willing to support us with all their unique gifts and resources. We want to thank all our donors for their willingness to come alongside the Home, and serve in different roles, but with the same mission.
