Suggestions for ISSA attendees – January 2020 This “city in a garden” is a unique destination offering a range of unique experiences. Some advanced planning will ensure you don’t miss a thing! Here are some things to consider when you visit Singapore ... Getting around Transportation in Singapore is easy and relatively affordable. There is a good public transport system called the MRT with stops located close to most attractions. Many times directions are given in proximity to the MRT stations. If you are a fan of Uber, you won’t find them in Singapore. The local equivalent is “Grab” and if you want to use them, you should download their App ahead of time. www.grab.com Taxis are also an easy alternative and will be readily available at taxi ranks.
The Singapore Dollar and the Australian Dollar are usually within about .10 cents of each other, so whatever prices you see while in Singapore you can roughly translate to your currency back home in Australia. Those from the US will do a bit better – Currently you will get $1.38 SIN for each USD, so you can look at those Singapore prices and know you are saving quite a lot. The Jewel The Jewel is one of the newest destinations to open in Singapore and it’s conveniently located at the international airport, so you can schedule an extra few hours when you arrive or depart to visit. This premiere shopping destination is built around a huge atrium with the largest man made waterfall in the world, that mystically falls from the center of the glass dome. There are luggage storage facilities in the terminals if you need to leave your bags and enjoy your shopping without dragging your bags along. The Jewel is integrated into Terminal 1’s arrival hall, and is accessible form terminals 2 & 3 by an enclosed walkway.

This has become one of the most iconic destinations in Singapore and your visit won’t be complete without spending some time here. Built on over 100 hectares of reclaimed land, there are various themed gardens to stroll through with four main areas to see ... Supertree Grove A collection of tree-shaped vertical gardens that are between nine and 16 stories tall. There is a walkway between some of them and they light up with music each evening.

Literally topping it off is the world’s largest infinity pool, featured in endless photos and even movies like “Crazy Rich Asians”. Many swimming people dream of visiting the pool, but access is limited to hotel guests. So, if you want to visit the pool and compete with all the selfie takers for the perfect pool lounging pic, you will have to book a night in the hotel. The room rate is steep, but many enjoy the experience and the hotel is the best located to walking across to the Gardens by the Bay development.
