Math Growth Mindset Award This award will be given to the student who, in their Math learning: •demonstrates wonder and a willingness to explore and take risks •understands that mistakes promote growth (we learn from our mistakes) •demonstrates a “can do” attitude •perseveres even when tasks are challenging (does not quit when the math gets difficult)
What would this look and sound like? • I can be excited to start math each day • I can be more concerned with the steps used to solve a problem and not worry if it is wrong • I can stay positive – no negative talk • I can keep on trying and not give up • I can not worry about how long it takes to solve a problem • I can talk with peers about how they solved questions
Responsible Citizen Award This award will be given to the student who: •accepts responsibility for their own actions •promotes peace in the school •gives witness to Catholic teachings
What would this look and sound like? • I can admit to things I have done wrong and not blame others • I can stand up for what is wrong and not stand by and watch others being hurt • I can speaks calmly • I can think about WWJD in the Gospels
A Caring IHM Family Member Award This award will be given to the student who: •demonstrates caring, kindness and understanding within their classroom and/or the entire school community •demonstrates these same qualities within their own family, in the IHM church or in the wider community
What would this look and sound like? • I can say “Good Morning” to staff, students and visitors • I can genuinely asks others, “How are you” ? • I can hold doors and have nice manners • I can ask people, “Are you ok” if they are feeling down or hurt • I can show these qualities in my classroom, in the school, at home, at church and in the community
Collaborative Contributor Award This award will be given to the student who: •finds meaning in all aspects of collaborative work willingly shares their own ideas in a kind and respectful way •listens attentively and respects the ideas and contributions of others
What would this look like and sound like? • Enjoys working with others as leader, listener, speaker, team member • Says, “What do you think?” or “What would you like to do?” • Shares their ideas in a nice way • Is not bossy or rude • Says, “Great idea.” or “I like how you did that.” • Listens well and does not interrupt
Effective Communicator Award This award will be given to the student who: •speaks, writes and listens honestly, respectfully and sensitively •responds compassionately and fairly to all •communicates in a positive manner, keeping the gospel values foremost in their mind. (WWJD?)
What would this look and sound like? • I can speak kindly and try not to hurt others feelings • I can write nice things about others • I can listen attentively at all times • I can tell the truth • I can think before I speak • I can speak with others’ feelings in mind • I can think “What would Jesus do or say in my place”?
