See if you identify with the by Jude McKee examples below: 7:30pm Liturgy meeting in the upstairs lounge First Example: Waiting in Dread You’re standing in line at the bank or the Wednesday 2 December supermarket, waiting for your turn. You’re tapping your foot and 9:30am Eucharist keep looking at your watch. You don’t want to be in this line. 10:30am Prayer group will meet with Before long, you begin to think, “Oh, I can’t wait for this to be Liz at Ultimate Care Rest Home 24 Mallard Grove, Churton Park. over!” Often times, the other people in line with you feel the same Jocelyn out of the office today way! No one speaks to anyone else. Clearly few are enjoying the R Thursday 3 December experience; the impatience or irritability you feel might even be visible on your face. Such an experience of waiting in line can 9:30am Eucharist seem isolating, almost lonely. Second Example: Waiting in Excitement Friday 4 December 9:30am Eucharist Now think about the times when you waited in line at the theatre, 10am SVDP meet in the foyer to buy tickets to see your favourite sports team, or to hear your favourite band. In these instances, the waiting is much different. CHRISTMAS HAMPER WEEKEND People are excited and you might even be talking to some of them Saturday 5 December about the movie you’re getting ready to watch, the sports team 6:00pm Vigil Mass that you love, or the band you’re about to hear. Sunday 6 December This second example is the kind of waiting we are called to in 2nd Sunday of Advent Advent. 9.30am Eucharist 4:30pm Communal Celebration of the Waiting in Joyful Hope Sacrament of Reconciliation in the At Mass, after praying the Lord’s Prayer, Church we hear “. . . as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.” This prayer reminds us that during Advent, we wait in joy, in hope, and in anticipation for the wonderful event we are about to experience — the feast of Christmas, the coming of Christ into our lives in new ways, the return of Christ in glory at the end of time. As the Church, we wait during Advent
and look forward to celebrating the fact that God loves us so much that he sent his Son into the world to save us. This waiting is far from empty; rather, it is full of the hope that God promises us as we prepare for Christ in the feast of Christmas. https://www.loyolapress.com/catholic-resources/liturgical-year/advent/about-advent/advent-waiting/ May the Lord show you the greatness of his goodness, that you overflow with thanks every day.
