Ngā Hau Ngākau Luminous paintings, intricately carved taonga puoro and beautiful music are woven together to form the extraordinary exhibition Ngā Hau Ngākau (Breath of Mine). A collaborative installation between Bob Bickerton, Brian Flintoff, Robin Slow, Ariana Tikao, Holly Tikao-Weir and Solomon Rahui exploring ideas of harmony, memory and storytelling using painting, sculpture and sound. Supercheap Auto’s Spectacular Car Show The show is hosted annually by the Shannon Progressive Association and not only is it a fundraiser for us, it also provides an opportunity for other local groups to raise funds without having to organise a venue. So, Shannon School, Shannon Playcentre, our Kōhanga Reo, local churches, Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade and other community groups join us at the Domain with their own free sites. Once again the amazing Levin Super Cheap Auto are on board providing a range of fabulous prizes and an amazing raffle in an effort to help us out. Last year saw over 500 vehicles for display on the Domain with Sunday 17 February another few thousand visitors 17 From 9am coming in as well. Stay safe on the beach Drive safely on the beach • There is a 30kph speed limit on all Horowhenua beaches. • Vehicles driven on the beach must be roadworthy and road legal. • All road rules apply on the beach. • Be aware of pedestrians, children and animals sharing the beach – drive slowly and carefully. • Avoid driving over dunes – it causes damage and erosion. • Avoid racing, donuts, wild swerves and other dangerous driving behaviour. • Beaches are regularly patrolled by Police and beach wardens. Phone *555 or 111 to report unsafe driving behaviour. Be sunsmart • Wear clothing that covers your arms and legs, a hat, and good-quality sunglasses. • Stay in the shade where possible. • Use a broad spectrum sunscreen SPF30 or above. Reapply every two hours or after swimming. Be safe in the water Swim on beaches patrolled by Surf Lifesavers and stay in the flagged patrol areas. Between 19 December and 25 January, Waitarere Beach and Foxton Beach are patrolled: • 11am to 6pm, Monday to Friday • 1pm to 5pm, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
