T H E P R I E S T S ’ PA G E Dear Friends in Christ, I am truly blessed to serve as your Pastor! This is an amazing and generous community, and I’m very thankful to be part of it. Thanks be to God we have been able to have in person Masses and have, over time, slowly in- creased our capacity in accord with Diocesan guidelines. It has been a blessing to have so many parishioners and families return over the past weeks and I want to make sure to invite back ALL of our parishioners for Mass and in person Sacraments. We are working so hard at sanitizing and making this a safe environment to worship God, and we miss having everyone here. As soon as you feel ready, we are here with our doors open for you! It’s no surprise COVID-19 has brought St. John the Baptist many challenges including restrictions on Mass attendance and various ministerial and social functions resulting in reduced offering amounts. Yet at the same time we still incur significant extra costs for cleaning and maintenance services for our facilities and programs including Religious Education and our parish grade school to keep the community healthy. The good news is the attention given to extra sanitation has paid off in the way intended. With the Grace of God, we have been financially stable in spite of the pandemic; however, the longer this cur- rent situation exists, the more financial exposure we have. If current trends continue, we will not be in nearly as good of a financial position in a few short months as we are right now. During this Lenten period, I feel the Lord prompting me to ask you to help supplement our contributions and donations and ask for your prayerful participation in the St. John the Baptist “53rd Sunday” collection this weekend. Can you double your normal Sunday collection amount? For example, if you normally give $20, can you make it $40 or if you give $50, can you make it $100? Any additional amount is a blessing. The hope is that with the extra funds we could offset our expenses as if we had an additional Sunday of Collections, hence the name “53rd Sunday”. We ask if you are able to contribute, to please use our special “53rd Sunday” envelopes from Church, or to send in to the parish office any contributions marked “53rd Sunday.” There is also an option to donate on our parish website through “We Share”. Simply go to www.stjohnwinfield.org. On our website, please click the image that says “Online Giving with We Share,” then donate through the spe- cial “53rd Sunday” link. There also is the option to make reoccurring Sunday contributions on the same page if online giving is a more convenient option for you. I understand that some parishioners may not be able to increase at this time and that is understandable. How- ever, I still ask of you, please pray for the intention of a successful 53rd Sunday! When I arrived, I shared in my first Sunday homily that my goal was to help everyone get to Heaven. That’s still my chief mission and goal to this day, and will continue to be! With your generous spiritual support and prayers, I know this effort will be successful and bear fruit. I thank you in advance for your prayers and also for any financial support you are able to give. May God reward each of you for your spiritual and financial generosity. In Christ, Fr. Chris Lankford, Pastor
Simplemente vaya a www.stjohnwinfield.org.
