Our Lady Of The Lake / Mount Carmel
Thank you for joining in our Eucharistic celebration. Welcome if you are
a visitor. We are glad that you are with us today and hope that you will
find nourishment for your faith and life here. If you have recently
moved into our Parish, please come to the Parish Office Window at St.
James to register and introduce yourself to the priests and staff.
A Strange but True Fact
There is a species of jellyfish found in the Italian Mediterranean that feeds on tiny snails of
the nudibranch variety. The snail is protected by its shell, and the jellyfish cannot digest
them. Once the jellyfish eats one of these snails, a bizarre reversal of roles takes place: the
diner becomes the dinner. Attaching itself to the wall of the jellyfish’s digestive tract, the
snail begins to eat the jellyfish. By the time the snail grows to maturity, it has completely
consumed the jellyfish. The poor jellyfish is eventually consumed by what it has consumed.
What we consume can consume us as well. We can be swallowed up in our pursuit of
wealth, prestige, and power, isolating us from family and friends, making us immune to hu-
man feelings and emotions, desensitizing us to any other’s needs but our own.
Lent is a warning to be careful of the “snail” we consume that can swallow us up, displacing
the eternal things of God with the immediate but fleeting things in our lives.
Fast & Abstinence Regulations
Fridays in Lent are days of Abstinence for all who have reached the age of 14.
This means to abstain totally from meat.
Good Friday is a day of Fast and Abstinence.
Totally abstain from meat, and a limit of one full meal for all
between the ages of 18 and 59.

Bingo Sunday, March 20th.
Doors will open at 1:00 and the first game will
be called at 2:00. Proceeds from Bingo will be
donated to Putnam Northern Westchester
Women's Resource Center. Cost is $35

Penny Social Sunday, March 27th.
Doors will open at 1:00 and calling will begin at
