QUEENSLAND PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Greetings Dancer’s,
We are delighted to be bringing news of our clubs starting up and dancing
once more in this edition of the Bugle. We have even heard of some
dances held at the end of the last year for Christmas and New Year.
Please see this Bugle for opening dates and details that we have received
from the various clubs. It is a pleasure to once more to be hearing from
the clubs, but we still love receiving contributions and memories from
individual people as well. It certainly helped us to keep sending interesting
reading to our square dancing community and stops the Bugle from
becoming just a bunch of adds. We believe this encourages people to
actually read this magazine.
Hoping to see everyone at the upcoming Queensland Society AGM. This year we have changed the
format. We are having a free dance before the meeting, and time permitting, more dancing after the
meeting. Even though the dancing is free please bring some funds to buy raffle tickets to help subsidise the
hall. You will need to bring your own refreshments for the break, due to following the Covid Plans and
procedures. We thank Upbeat Chaos for hosting this dance for the Society.
We have received two nominations for positions on the committee, being one from June Lambert,
unopposed for Vice President and the other being from Lorraine Keenan as secretary, also unopposed.
Other vacancies that are unfilled will be called from the floor. Any issues to be listed on the agenda we wish
to receive by 20 February 2021.
Over the last 12 months the committee has been busy, despite the lack of dancing locally. We have been
attending National Society meetings via Zoom, and also the National Subcommittee for Publicity also via
zoom. We have received material from the Publicity committee, that includes three videos and two radio
adverts for any club to be able to use to advertise Square Dancing. Please go to the website at

We are also running a program called Meetups. Our representative from Queensland is Jo Read from
Bundaberg and thank her for doing this for us. If you are running or advertising a free dance, we could
advertise this event through this medium on social media It is understood that the events must be free and
thus would be introductions to square dancing and thus for learners. For more information on this please
contact Jo.
The deferred Queensland Convention is on again! It is being held at Hervey Bay in August and all the
relevant details are within this Bugle.
There is no National Convention being held this year, however the National Convention Board has taken
over the running of a National Convention in 2022, to be held in Goulburn 21-25 April. We understand 2023
will be in South Australia, 2024 in Darwin and 2025 is to be held in Queensland. There is a steering
committee set up for the Queensland Convention. Further details about the coming Convention in Goulburn
are also in this Bugle.

Tce, Deception Bay.
Dance from 1.00 pm 14 March 2021 AGM start 2.30pm, and even more dancing
at its conclusion time permitting.

EZ Squares Caboolture News
Happy New Year to all dancers. I’m sure everyone is looking forward to dancing
again in 2021. Our club will resume on Sunday 7th February 2021 from 2pm –
4pm at the Senior Citizens Hall 24 Hasking Street Caboolture with a CoVid Safe
Plan.
We will be easing you back into Mainstream every week so don’t worry if you
think you’ve forgotten everything, I’ll be gentle.

At this point of time Suncoasters will recommence our club nights on Saturday the
20th February 2021, our Plus nights on Monday the 22nd February 2021and our
Basics on Tuesday 23rd February 2021.

Please be advised that LCSD Inc hosted square dance sessions at Logan City Square Dance
Centre, Crestmead are in recess till further notice.

Hervey Bay News
Hello, Hello
Hervey Bay Square Dance Club is kick starting 2021 with their first Session on Wednesday
27th of January with Australia as the theme. We'll be back at Dan Dinna House, 459 Boat
Harbour Drive, Torquay 4655, should you find yourself nearby, do drop in.
On Thursday night, 28th January, we have our COMBO group starting, also with an
Australian theme. (That means we only have to decorate the hall once)
Saturday 30th of January will be Mainstream & Teaching PLUS, 9.30am-11.30am. This will
change to raw Beginners on March 6th.
Hang on to your hats!
We've engaged Andrew Reid from the Gold Coast to call for us on Saturday 13th of
February to really get us dancing again 2-4.30pm PLUS and 7-10.30pm Mainstream with a
Valentine theme. Please come and join the fun if you are in the area.
All sessions are under the governance of a COVID19 management plan.
We do ask that if you feel unwell or have been in an area (like greater Brisbane right now)
with COVID cases, please get checked and stay home till you get the results.
Hervey Bay has been dancing, holding Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties the past few
months under our COVID plan and we've had a lot of fun, without incidents.
Let's all keep ourselves in top shape and get ready for a funtastic year which includes
dancing again. Hope to see some of you soon. Safe travels and enjoy!

Wavell Whirlaways will be returning to dancing on Wednesday 27th January 2021

State Convention News! Get ready, find your shoes, skirts, petticoats and suitcases because the 39th QCA Qld State Square Dance Convention is ON. The dates for Floral Fiesta have been moved to August 13th to 15th. Same location, same venue, same hours, same hosts. If you were registered for 2020 you would have received notification earlier. If you were waiting to register, use the form in this month's Bugle or go to our website; squaredancingherveybay.com.au. We'll do our best to keep it up to date. We have contacted the accommodations again and are still sorting through their responses. Make sure you tell them you are coming for the Square Dance Convention. As planned before, Hervey Bay is holding a Welcome Dance on Wednesday 11th of August with James Reid, and a Farewell & Thank You Dance on Monday 16th with Gary Petersen (Gary's ability to travel depends on COVID restrictions). So when you book, treat yourself and stay to play. Let's make it a success. Till we meet, take care, stay well and keep smiling.
