AN ARTIST’S RENDERING OF THE ARTS COURTYARD AT ANNIE AND JOHN GLENN AVENUE ARTS DISTRICT Ground has been broken, and construction is officially underway for the new Arts District. As part of Ohio State’s long-term vision to open the university’s front door to the heart of the Oval, this project will bring new and renovated facilities — including state-of-the-art performance spaces, modern recital halls, new rehearsal rooms and high-tech classrooms — for the School of Music, Department of Theatre and moving-image production major. Bold and innovative, the Arts District seeks to spark imagination and inspiration across creative disciplines. CONSUMMATE LOVE FIRST-YEAR DEPARTMENT OF ART MASTER OF FINE ARTS EXHIBITION Monday, Feb. 3 – Friday, Feb. 21 Hopkins Hall Gallery, 128 N. Oval Mall Hopkins Hall Gallery presents a showcase of work created by first- year MFA students from Ohio State’s Department of Art. Consummate Love, representing an ideal relationship that people strive toward, stresses the importance of translating the components of love into action. Town St. After three years of extensive studio work, research and experimentation, this exhibition showcases the work of artists about to graduate from the Department of Art. High St. Senior BFA students present their capstone projects, which paint an engaging and captivating picture of these students’ experiences and time at Ohio State. DEPARTMENT OF DESIGN SPRING EXHIBITION Wednesday, March 25 – Saturday, April 4 Urban Arts Space, 50 W. Town St. The Department of Design spring exhibition features senior theses by undergraduate students from each of the department’s three programs: industrial design, interior design and visual communication design. The exhibition also includes projects from select master of fine arts students from the design research and development and the digital animation and interactive media concentrations. design.osu.edu 12
BY JONATHAN HERRERA SOTO AMONG THE SHADOWS IN THE INTERVALS OF DREAM Monday, March 30 – Wednesday, April 15 Hopkins Hall Gallery, 128 N. Oval Mall Among the Shadows in the Intervals of Dream explores the construction of historical narratives and collective memory. The work challenges authoritative accounts of history by focusing on the gaps and unsettling contradictions these histories paper over. It creates a space for engaging lived histories and memories through an evolving set of questions and stories, both personal and collective. ACCAD OPEN HOUSE Friday, April 10 • 3-6 p.m. 331 Sullivant Hall, 1813 N. High St. Once each year the general public is invited to discover the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD), one of the first computer graphics centers in the world. Guests are encouraged to explore the center, observe, ask questions and physically interact with demos that include 3D animated films, AR/VR experiences, mediated performances, digital games, motion capture and more. ACCAD provides space for new knowledge generation through intense study, discussion and application.
